i can't remember the exact procedure. would have to research to refresh my memory. but i know you can set your own passwords in router type systems. such as wireless modems and what not. i would imagine the hotspots could do the same thing.

i think it's 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your web browser. to get into your modem.

i'll have to tinker with mine when i get back home to verify.

might even ask google. to see if it's possible.

Lol....Thanks Snowwy. I was kidding. I'm an ex software engineer. My password is good and complicated. My WIFI shows up as "UrMamasSoFat"
It hasn't happened since Oklahoma City. I've kept track.

    Thanks anyways!!!

XLTE isn't anything faster or different than regular LTE as far as data speed. It's just Verizon using the NWS freq's that they acquired years ago. I am on Verizon with a Note 3...it was built with modems for all network's freq's, you just have to have the carrier reflash your firmware to use it on a different carrier. There are dev's on the XDA forum who have used the T-Mo sim card to download a rootable T-Mo bootloader on a Verizon phone, root it normally and replace the sim card with a Verizon sim.

As far as the difference between the phone and the hot spot having different signal strength doesn't have as much to do with hardware as firmware...the radio files determine signal. Verizon's latest update (4.4.4)has an improved radio file (along with closing the exploit they used for towelroot...which is the work around for a locked Verizon bootloader) perhaps your hotspot needs a firmware update to improve it's signal...

a friend has a Verizon phone that had a similar issue. Hit's the forum a couple time a month, email, weather, road conditions etc...and sucked up his data in days. So it's not just Sprint. BTW, tower pings, system messages and firmware updates are not usually counted against your data limits...but usually doesn't necessarily mean always.

All this discussion makes me sooooooo glad I kept my Verizon Unlimited plan...I would be hurting big time since my data usage exceeds 100-150 gig a month.

XLTE must be SOMEthing faster then LTE.

cuz are lot of you verizons are posting way faster speeds in the same area then I'M getting on my old outdated phone.

The only reason it seems faster is because where it was added was in major metropolitan areas that had network slowdowns because of insufficient capacity...once they added bandwidth, those of us that had newer phones that had the radio to use those frequencies got to use the network with less traffic, and it also freed up some capacity on the other frequency for those that didn't have a phone that could access XLTE.

AT&T had a similar problem, then they came up with 2 different 4g systems...the 1st was just a suped up version of 3g to help relieve the network bottlenecks while they were building out their own LTE network.

    Skate-Board Thanks this.

any tips for a canadian trucker who runs all over the U.S. and data plans? I saw a Verizon booth at the TA in Porter recently and chatted them up for a bit....i was taken aback by the cost......so far i've been hitting a mcdonalds when i can or spending my resets at the local library.

You've missed the boat for good deals. T-mobile and Sprint still have unlimited plans (but there are throttling issues with T-mo)..plus service areas aren't the best with them. And the Federal Government is going after carriers that advertised "unlimited" plans but throttle them, so I can see all unlimited plans going bye-bye very soon...or at least until the next 'G' technology deploys. 5G is up and running in S.Korea and Samsung claims that their phones that are using it are way faster than most residential WiFi providers. If it's true, that'll end data bottlenecks from excessive users in a cell area and maybe....maybe unlimited will return.

Net10/Tracphone have unlimited service down here, but there are issues with wireless tethering if you use it to watch movies and youtube.

Anyone can throttle you if it's in your new contract. You signed it.

I don't think Unlimited is coming back to either ATT or VZW.
They found out that's where they can really make their $.
I also think it doesn't make much sense for most people that have regular jobs anyway.

even sprint charges for hotspot internet. even though they offer unlimited. without the hotspot feature.

i haven't been throttled yet. nor have i been warned. but i'm not a heavy user. although, i'll use up way more then my verizon phone allows.
