Will I have a problem getting Hired?

A one-time "bad decision" is generally clear of your system within two weeks. A week long "party hearty" may take up to a month to clear.

Hair testing is valid only for the past 90 days.

Since you will be going in as a student, I'd recommend starting with one of the training companies that does not do hair testing. Run with them for six months, then you'll be clean to go anywhere you wish.

 

Right now your best bet is to hold off for awhile and get that weight down.I know you're not a drug addict but its a very sensitive subject in the trucking world.You're old enough to know right from wrong and if you wanna drive trk later on down the road,then lay off the drugs completely which means during vacation no more smoking whacky tobaccky.

 

Drop 40 lbs in the next 4 months, then start applying - drug test will be clear, you'll be a bit healthier, and will have already studied for the tests.

DOT only requires 3years work history on record unless you've had past DOT regulated jobs. You may get passed up by some potential employers but not all of them. When I first got into trucking I was 26 with over 20 different jobs. TransAM turned me down but US Xpress took me in. The main thing is employment verification. Tax records are the easiest/best way to do this. So, round up your old W2s. If needed, you can get a copy of your old tax returns for $50 per year from the IRS. Periods of unemployment also have to be documented. It helps if you ever got unemployment to verify it otherwise they'll have a form to fill out and you'll need someone not related to you that can "verify" what is stated on the form.

As for the pot, no real worry there. Consider waiting another month before attending CDL school, they only pee test, as required by the DOT. Once out of the school I'm sure even your hair will be clean. The hair test is not DOT required and so it's uncommonly used. You do have to give it up for good though, which sucks. I speak from experience. Five years ago I decided it was ok for me to toke and I lost my job and I've been unhireable. I'm going through the SAP program now and will be returning to the truck in a couple weeks(god willing and the sun shinning).

And consider exercising. Don't have to lose weight but being healthy should be everyone's concern.

How often do you get random UA's? Reason I'm asking is I like to smoke Marijuana. Period.

I also needs to get into a new career making good money though. So I am willing to quit smoking, even though I think it's gonna suck.

Well, they're random. That's why you have to stop 100% so long as you are a truck driver, period. I've heard stories of people being tested 3+ times in a couple months. Most people are caught by being tested after home time/vacation, that's what happened to me. After I finish the SAP program I will be subject to no less than 6 drug tests a year for the next 5 years. I'm ok with that. I understand how ya feel about pot, I'm the same way... I LOVE smokin pot and playing video games. But truck driving is the only job I've made enough money to actually feed myself and I won't trade that to smoke. Now..some day, when I'm done with trucking, and pot is taken off the schedule 1 list, I'll be having a party.

Moral of the story, you can not beat the system, do not even try. Ya gotta choose, smoking or trucking, cant have both.

 

Stay away from truck driving. With that type of attitude you will end up making a mistake and failing a random drug screen and possibly owing thousands of dollars for truck driving school when no one will take you once you fail a drug screen for many years.

 

It's your life to do with as you please. The one thing I can tell you is this, Burger King will hire you after you fail that random UA, well maybe. I had a good friend that was the manager of BK. That's where I worked, and currently working at again for the last 5 years.
