Small crack from a pebble hitting my windshield. It appears the only damage on the outside layer is the white mark where the pebble hit but the wider crack appears to be inside of the actual glass. I don’t know if there’s a protective layer or what. Would this require complete windshield replacement or what do you think?
Will this crack spread? Where should I get it fixed?

what's your company policy on it?
-
FMCSA guidlines
- A crack larger than 0.75 inches in diameter
- Any intersecting cracks
- Cracks directly in your line of sight above the steering wheel (in the arc cleaned by the wiper)
- Two cracks within three inches of each other

Not many people would replace a windshield for that small of a nick in the glass.

BUT, fix it now or it will probably get worse. They just squirt some goop in the chip and you're good to go. Not too expensive either.Tb0n3, Sons Hero, tscottme and 1 other person Thank this.

Yes, there are windshield fix kits at $10-15 Amazon, Walmart, and auto parts store, maybe even a truck store. It has some resin to fill in the empty space and prevent or slow down spreading of any crack. I was a company driver so I never spent time fixing a small ding in the windshield. In fact I don't remember too many windshields in the first 20 years of trucking, but I remember several in the last 5 years of trucking. I know one weight saving scheme manufacturers use is making windshields thinner, and those get cracked and damaged more easily that old windshields.

Parts stores sell a DIY chip repair kit. At my last company, my Volvo had more than a dozen rock chips that I repaired myself that never spread.

I wouldn’t fix it if it’s not leaking.
When it’s time replacing windshield yourself puts couple hundred bucks in your pocket! -
Yep you're done for...... scrap it

It's hard to tell by the photo how large it is.
It should be cheap to patch it before it starts to crack more, and if it starts cracking you would need a full replacement.
Winter is coming, and with it more temperature fluctuations. Those changing temps can really affect those small things.xzmpt Thanks this.
