The theft ring in New Jersey that has been stealing trucks and fully-loaded trailers is still at large. Since early August, the police have had no leads as trucks in the Paterson, NJ area have been taken, emptied of their cargo, and then dumped. Police said on Friday that some of the stolen equipment had been recovered and that they would hopefully be able to get some fingerprints off of the recovered rigs.
Since all of the equipment that’s been stolen has belonged to OOIDA members, OOIDA’s director of security operations issued a statement advising drivers to “keep cognizant of where you are, where you’re going, if someone’s following you… The truck thefts have all been Freightliners. The group of organized thieves see there is no sleeper cab, so they know it’s going to be dropped off. They steal the trucks and cargo and dump them later.”
TRACER, the Transportation Alert Communication and Emergency Response program, was launched in 2009 by OOIDA. The program is a two-way communication system that sends alerts to members and coordinates information received from trucking members.
Members can sign up to receive text messages and email alerts for truck thefts and missing persons.
Truckers may call the TRACER hotline at 866-950-2291 or visit www.tracersystem.us to get the latest advisory or if they have information to report about stolen cargo or missing persons, etc.
