Im sure its been asked a bajillion times...I will be leaving Phoenix...Mesa specifically in the heat of rush hour, my load should be less than 10000 pounds. Are these back roads going to be any quicker with a light load? Or am I better off just sticking to the big roads?

AZ-87 N and AZ-260 is about 175 mile and 3 hours give or take.

I-17 N and I-40 E is about 250 miles and probably 45 minutes to an hour longer.

But if you have a problem you be better off going thru Flag.

Those back roads are nice but too many up and down and twistys to slow you down. I would stick with I-17N to I-40E.

It might be a nice tradeoff vs the 5 oclock 500 on i-17 north with the 4 wheelers doing 85 and heavy trucks barely crawling up those hills.

How about US 60 from Mesa to Show Low how good/bad is that?

Check for restrictions Arz has some. Used to run Feed around there back in the 90s. but things can change. Check first.

U.S. 60 is do able, but you'll be spending a lot of time ascending and decending in the Salt River Canyon area. The I-17 is a straight shot, yes you have a climb, but you're light so it's not a issue. It's better then spending your time on the slow twisty canyon roads. Good luck and be safe.
