Hey everyone. So im prob going to be joining intermodal soon. The 2 companies im looking into hard are Kiswani and All Points. Im looking at trucks to buy within the next month. I rode with someone before and it wasn't bad how people make it out to be. Yes I know it has bad parts to it. Its the rails. Chassis , containers, rail yards, etc. But def not a horrible gig. I just like the fact ill still be local. Really looking into crosstown gigs. But I wonder if a o/o can make money. Looking into a 06/07 truck. colubmia. But has high miles 800-900k. Really worried about that. Jb hunt and Schneider are good too. But i dont know if the megas will pay how kiswani and all points pay. Def gonna be different from working local with central. I like central too. But looking for something greener. At least i hope.

I may be new, but it would seem to me if your gut tells ya something....maybe it's a good idea to listen to it.

I was recently looking at the resale value of trucks based on mileage alone. Then I spoke to my school's maintenance director.

Not that the truck is "faulty" by any means, but certainly may be coming due for some major overhauls within the next 100K or.

Good luck on your ventures and Godspeed.

Hi 4no, I never like to rip on anyone that makes a decision, usually once someone makes up their mind to do something, they don't listen anyway. I pulled that junk for almost 5 years, and the main reason I put up with it, was it was somewhat local, like you said. RR are STILL using tube tires, local drivers STILL load the wagon( 48K is not uncommon), brakes are shoddy , at best, some chassis STILL don't have sliding tandems, these rail yards are trying more than ever to stick repairs and tires on you, getting a live lift, or chassis change, can be challenging, and DOT loves to pick on you, and for good reason. I'm not saying it can't be done, but after 4.5 years, I had enough, and moved on.

I know, I lived near Madison, Wis. and hauled out of Chicago, and i"ll agree, if you have your own truck, there's not a heck of a lot you can do except OTR. Things have gotten a lot better, just make darned sure everything is kosher BEFORE you leave, especially tires. Get out and walk with the person, and when checking tires, get back in and roll a couple of feet, to make sure the person sees no flat spots, and documents it. Someone else here said, after you drop the chassis, these yard jocky's drag the chassis, and charge the last person for tires.

that makes no fricking sense. how do they even get away with that crap. man that sucks. if they own it then they got to pay for it. here is the thing though. jb hunt and Schneider, do they not pay for their equipment repair? o/o or company? im sure they do. central ref has trailers in the rails and i know if i get a flat with a rail trailer they darn well gonna fix it. also i heard the professionalism is way different compared to central. like central is more professional than the rail companies are.

Well, once you put your John Henry on that form, you assume all responsibility for that piece of equipment. And J.b and Schneider own that equipment , I believe, so that might be different, just so you know what you're getting into, these guys are crooks.
