Presently leased to Mercer w/flatbed. Sold lo-pro step a couple of years ago to haul oilfield pipe (and we all know what happened there)....not happy w/flatbed freight. Would like to get back to Ag/Const/Military rolling stock, preferably OD, not heavy haul. Anyone doing this for Mercer? I really, really like the company. Thanks!

    OONewbie Thanks this.

I am willing to live up to my screen name here on the TTR and throw myself under the bus for the purpose of education.. Can I ask what RGN/ AG & OD are ? I am going on w/ Mercer next month and been told if I want to survive & thrive get into specialized freight and the freight your talking about, so decipher the acronyms for me , if you would please?

And a rgn is where the neck comes off the trailer and you drive machine on re attach the neck and off you go also known as lowboy or double drop

Correct. Removable Goose Neck (rgn)-Over Dimensional (OD)-Agricultual (AG). Good luck at Mercer. Great people. Follow the advice that many others have posted....give yourself some time to learn the system and for your load coordinator to figure out what you like to haul.

    OONewbie Thanks this.

See, no reason to throw people under the bus around here. This is why Mercer has more of a family atmosphere then a company one. :)

Not sure why someone would tell you to rgn or oversize is best way to survive around here.

It's what I do and I only survive because I have paid off equipment and I'm ok making half the gross dollars of most Mercer flatbedders.
I know I'd make more money here with a flat. Just not as much per mile.

Otherwise I love it here at Mercer.
Have you read the the Mercer thread on here
