I have just recently graduated from school with my CDL and had planned on reporting for orientation at Roehl Transport next week. I was just told by a friend that just started with Roehl a couple weeks ago that he had to do a hair folicile test. The drug testing isn't a concern for me because I have never touched an illegal substance. However I am bald and a few weeks ago I was forced to shave body hair due to some type of bug infestation in our new home. After washing everything in hot water and steam cleaning furniture we were still getting these small bites on us and our doctor suggested shaving because mites and other microscopic bugs feed on the dead skin that gets trapped in the hair. With all that said if I am unable to provide a sufficient hair sample will Roehl fire me. I cannot afford to waste time and definitely don't want to look like some kind of stoner trying to beat the system. Should I just look else where or will a urine test be good enough for them. Thanks for any insight.

Not sure what they will do, but you wouldn't get fired for failing to submit a hair test because they wouldn't hire you in the first place if that's what they choose to do.
if you get a note from you doctor explaining why you shaved everything they probably would hire you and give you a 90 day probationary period to grow enough hair for the test. Ask the recruiter. -
Call and ask the Roehl office people.

Thanks for the replies. I called and talked with the Roehl Recruiter and she said that she will talk with the safety department and see what they can do. She said they might be willing to work something out because I just retired from military and was tested all the time. Hopefully I get good news. The more I talk with Roehl the more I want to work for them. As far as starter companies go they have been the only one to send me an email after every time we talk and list in it everything we talked about. Most companies I have talked to will tell you anything on the phone but won't provide any of it in writing. As for the note from Dr. It was actually my wifes Dr. I wasn't there but I'm sure I can get something from her. Thanks again. Also any insight on Roehl Transport would be appreciated.

You will just be a truck number with a large company, and there are some small company's that will hire new drivers you just have to do homework in and around your area -
I steered away from what they had to offer and am going with Knight myself. I had them on my radar for being a military friendly company and all, but just started seeing more and more "your just a number" type answers from the recruiter. Was not my cup of tea.

small company's recognize the driver and get treated way better not to mention better pay, faster trucks, STEADY miles, and less micro managing.

Even though you say Knight is the same way, so far my dealings are quite opposite. I call in and I don't even finish and she is cutting me off to remind me of the last time we talked and asked how i have been. Yeah I get it, it is the "recruiter" mind set, but at least they are a bit more personable there. That goes a long way with me.Last edited: Oct 24, 2014

we all start somewhere, but if I had known what I do now, when I first started... I would have never gone with a large carrier. This is my opinion on it, as I've said knight my work well for you and I hope it does, just don't always for the company that has a nice recruiterlcfd15 Thanks this. -
