The month of June - pre-emptive recap.

18.25 days worked (13 days out and 7.25 partial days)
    $15,861.99 revenue to the truck
    9324 all miles
    8624 Paid miles
    92% paid miles - 7% deadhead miles
$1.70 all miles to the truck.

    Maintenance

$6,822.27 in repairs - consisting of
Change oil in 2 rear ends and gearbox. 4 shock absorbers. Complete left front brake rebuild. New belts. ABS modulator valve. Alignment. AG400 suspension rebuild to replace worn out AG200.

$2,900 in tires, (10) - on LCAPP, to be deducted in 10 payments from settlements for the next 10 weeks.

8 trips of frames in total. I hid at the house for the DOT blitz June 1st -4th, and will be home the June 28 - 30.

So - there you go. Heavy maintenance this month, it has swallowed the entire maintenance budget and sucked up the last 2 weeks profit but we'll be back to even on July 1st, building back the maintenance fund and putting the profit into paying off the trailer quicker - assuming I don't tear anything else up !

Old or new it's what your comfortable with. One way or another trucks cost money. For me old is the way to go,but I carry enough tools to just about do a inframe anywhere.

Read DY's thread - he's done the study.

And it ain't over till the portly CPA sings - this is less than 4 months of ownership here.

I'll be passing your house on the 29th, you should stand by the interstate and watch, it is a rare sight to see me working. Something a lot of people never see.

It really depends on your operation, as well as the person. Blair isn't afraid to work on the truck, heck he changes his own oil which is something I have no desire to do, and haven't found a real savings to DIY in my operation. If you're not handy, or have no desire to be, and your plan for working includes very few weeks off, new is probably the way to go. If you like to take time off, then used, paid for, is the way to go. I did one local load last week, only have one local scheduled this week, and have a good 600 miler scheduled after the 4th. I'm not stressed at all. The key to it all, new or used though, is to get the rates to support your operation.

That was my plan. Coming up on year 3 in Sept. Should owe under 40 on the truck. Problem is with the oil so low canadian $ has taken a s&#t and a new.truck is $165k plus..... so.. gonna stick it out with this one. Have 510k on it and other than one overhead haven't had a screw turned on the motor.

Here you go @Old Man - this is what $3.25/mile looks like out of Wichita.

It was the better part of 95 degrees at midday when I loaded it, and I dropped 3 lbs in water weight getting it ready. Jet engine rack going to Rolls Royce. All of about 700 lbs. Deliver it today and see if there's anything going to E-town. Have some shuttle runs to Owensboro at $3.40 round trip - 1 Saturday, 2 Sunday. Not huge revenue, but may teach me the 'More money, less miles' mantra.

95 degrees? No problem, throw the tarp on then image.jpg get a cold gatoraid out of the fridge then a nice cool shower then go to work.

I would rather had your load instead of this 14 wide to Irving tx, took it down 35 from Denton thru all the construction, made lots of new friends

I bet you made lots of new friends !

At least I don't have a shower to clean - boy, that would really ruin my week if I had to clean my own shower in my truck. I'd much rather wait a day to use the truck stop showers.

Probably put clean clothes on after that too - I don't know why you put yourself through the misery !
