To the experienced drivers here :
Would a bribe work, like you say to the mechanic "There'll be a lil something extra for ya if you can get me outa here by such-n-such time " , while waving a hundred dollar bill under his nose.
Or a fifth of Jack . ?
Is that ever done in this industry. ?

You're lucky to make ANY money with western express they promise this and that but hardly ever come through. They've begged me to be a trainer and I've only got six months experience.
-
Any company that uses trainers with 6 months or less experience obviously does give a rat's behind about safety. It's companies like W.E., swift, CR England and other bottom feeder mega training companies that have sank this industry into the toilet. And then they start blathering to the media that their turnover is too high. And people wonder why I'd love to see the ATA annihilated.
White_Knuckle_Newbie and carramrod32 Thank this. -
Their pay is a sliding scale and because of that I have to stay out a month at a time just to get a half decent check. My little girls bday was Friday and I told them 4 weeks before what day I needed to be home. I didn't make it home until two days after the day I requested. I can understand things don't always go according to plan but they had four weeks to plan ahead and they didn'tdidn't
-
^This I know all too well. I usually have to plan 2-3 days before the ACTUAL DATE I need to be home in order to get home on time for misc. issues(doctor's/dentist's appts, etc.),even though I request the dates off 2-3 weeks in advance. Which is why I'm job hunting elsewhere right now. They wanted me to be a trainer when I was only with them 4 months in(I keep telling them no for a number a reasons).

Each industry is different when it comes to corporate crime. In this industry, especially this company, whoever is dumb enough to accept the keys will profit the company.
Company drivers are at the bottom of the pit if you think about it. 30 cents a mile? If a company charges the national average, $4/mile, then the driver gets paid by 7.5% of $4= 30 cents. Do you see how much this profits them? Also I don't buy that companies spend a lot of money on recruiting and training. If a trainee is out for even 1 week, thats enough to cover the training and recruiting costs.
