You ARE a truck driver..I thought there is an oil field driver thread on here somewhere??-I don't know..-Have been hallucinating a lot lately...The "1970"s" kicked my ###..-I seem to be paying the brain cell price on that now..

Good Luck-don't pay attention to the others-but there is a hierarchy of drivers out there--only problem is the order is directly related to the amount of insecurity the little boy has when he is telling you(what he does is REAL trucking)and how IT IS out here and why YOU dont count!

Driving a truck is driving a truck. You are a truck driver.
What the OTR guys may be referring too is that if you ever decide that you want to go OTR, then your experience will most likely not be counted by the OTR company's, since it will not be OTR work.
This always irritates me. Since many times the local guys are better drivers and better backers than the OTR guys. But the OTR company's all like to play the experience game.
Most of this is due to differences in terrain and weather conditions in different parts of the country.
Many OTR drivers would be jealous of your job though. Oil field work can pay allot more than your normal OTR job, and require less work time.Wargames, I am medicineman and msfern29 Thank this. -
I hauled oilfield water for a bit. Easiest trucking job I've ever had (well, except when everything froze...).
You're a truck driver, just not an OTR driver. Ain't no shame in that.
I do suggest you get a grip on those brakes, though. Maybe hook up with a more experienced driver there and work out any issues you may have. -
my riding time is over, was over couple months ago. one co-worker willing to let me ride on my day off; "i'll teach you how, is easy, and never touch the breaks", and he used the trailer break. well, that's using the break, sorry. I'm getting told No breaks, no engine break, just done by downshifting, and I cant do it.
the guys here are "grandfathered" in, most the advice I get would have failed the cdl test. I understand real driving, and test driving are no where near the same, but since I was taught test driving, I'm having trouble learning how to actually drive I guess.
is a very small outfit I work for, and right now we have several down in need of repairs, so I'm still slip seating. is really taking toll on my moral when after I drive one it goes into the shop for one thing or another. I just really want to be good at this. ya know?Wargames Thanks this. -

I have a very good friend who was in the Corp with me who drives a big truck hauling water for the oil fields up in ND. I would say yes your a professional driver.
