Myself and my hubby originally had the plan of him becoming a trucker and me going along for the ride and so after much research it became quickly obvious that we would be crazy not to do this as a team instead of solo (way more advantages for us) so I find myself facing the prospect of going to school to get my cdl...something I was not prepared for at all!
With me being a 'girl' I recognize the fact that I lack the basic knowledge that most men already have for this course of study. So's not to start school sticking out like a sore thumb, and have some sense of confidence going into this I thought it would be a good idea for me to get a head start and do some pre-class studying.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Get a copy of your states cdl study guide. It should have diagrams of commercial vehicles, parts of pre-trip etc. Helped me immensely.
Good luck to ya! -

I'd suggest you going along with your original game plan ... ride along for a few months and see if it "will work". If you both tolerate each other well, you tolerate the lifestyle well, then take the next step and look into getting your CDL. Married/Attached teams can make a lot of money together if you can pool/save the income generated if they hook up with the right company and can devote themselves to the job and have similar goals, drives, and work ethics.

you need not worry about not knowing more than a guy. in fact, many guys "don't know jack" about nothing anyway, so you are already ahead.
the school you and hubby will be going to will train you both. maybe at fist, you two may want NOT to work together as a team of students. work with other students. in this respect, if you or hubby have a difficult time doing something, neither of you will feel incapable in front of the other, then my gosh, the ride home will be horrible.
as time goes on, and you BOTH progress, THEN the two of you work as a team in school.
the school will have all the things you will need to learn. you can probably have your hubby show you how to check the oil, lights, etc, on the family car, to give you a heads up of some parts of ANY vehicle.
good luck, keep us up to date. -
thats a good choice riding dont pay --- husband and wife teams are at a premium to most any trucking company --- you will be in big demand -- so look carefully at the companys -- i had experience and my wife did not we chose ffe out of dallas its an 18 day school then you will have to be seperated while you train for 6 weeks and paid 455 a week then you guys will team up in your own truck --- all training is free if yu stay with company for a year and i believe the new teams start at 38 a mile which is good and they run you good-- schnieder is also a good place to start out as a team -- but you have to go to a private school and pay for it somehow schnieder will reimburse you 3500 i think over time not sure on how long you have to go with trainor -- call and find out ---- if you were interested in ffe call and talk with sandy adams she is honest for a recruiter -- that was a good fit for us --- but we knew what we were in for -- theres a lot more to driving a truck than driving a truck lol --- just do your home work and check into a lot of companys and dont settle for anything less than 35 cents a mile to start after you each have a year experience you really can make good money --- and if your are worried about your cdl test i read somewhere that women are 4 times more likely to pass both the written and driving portions on there first try ---- something to do with male ego maybe lol -just make sure you both get a long good ---thats tight quarters--and both have to be committed as well---well good luck to you both
Thephilteam Thanks this. -
