For someone that never drove a manual shift truck nor vehicle. How long does it normally take the average person to learn during training?

Actually probably better off, because its not the same and you do not have to unlearn from what you know in a car.

Obviously everybody learns at a different pace.
It's actually pretty simple, get the basic concept down, the rest is just practice.

The Double Clutching thing took me a little bit to get down. (not 2 years...that was a joke)
Most Schools are only going to teach you enough to pass the CDL Test anyway, so you may or may not have the shifting down perfectly at that point.

I know you were kidding. Thats understandable. So basically the company a new trucker gets hired on to continues to teach with their trainer??

yes...you learn to get your license in school, and then the company teaches you how to drive.

Depends on the person. I had a lot of trouble with downshifting, didn't help that my cre road trainer wanted me to figure it out myself. My swift road trainer though, day and night difference. He made it so easy. So it depends on the person and who trains u.

I've driven manual transmissions all of my life and trying to shift in the truck horrible. I was worried they were going to kick my out of the Swift Academy it was so bad. I changed to wearing tennis shoes and it got a lot better. I've been solo for almost a month and don't do too bad. I think you're better off not having driven a manual before. No habits to get over.

Well I never really learned during training .. I was pathetic pretty much the whole time, lol . And I had no prob with a manual in a car. Guys that never drove stick were probably equally bad. I improved thru each phase, but improved by leaps and bounds after going solo.
