I am currently attending TDA for truck driving school in Sacramento, California. I was sent there by Central Refrigerated Services. I'm nearly done with my 2nd week out of 3 weeks. I'm struggling and I'm not getting the help I need. I can't do the skills that require backing up. I'm far behind everyone else in the class.
If I'm not able to pass by the end of the third week, what happens? Will I be able to continue the class until I pass? Will I owe Central refrigerated Services $3,000? Will they allow me to make a deal to pay out of pocket for a different school and upon completion and obtaining my license, sign on with Central for a year and then only have to pay what the contract said of making payments until I have paid off $1,500 even though I would not have successfully completed the school they sent me to?
Does Central accept licenses of brand new drivers who went to a school other than what they send people to? I'm thinking about going to a school that is run by Teamsters Union which I know one of the instructors who is already interested in working with me.

If Central flunks you, ignore the debt; they didn't provide what you paid for. Even if they mess with your credit, so what? Most Americans have credit problems these days. Go with the Teamsters school if it doesn't work out & you will have several good options as to companies.

You need to speak with your instructors and let them know that you need extra practice. For what you're paying for the school, they need to be bending over backwards to help you succeed. If you can't get the extra help that you need, talk to your recruiter at Central. Maybe that can light a fire under their ##### to help you get what you are paying for.

I tried asking for help, but that didn't help. My instructor tried, but I'm just not getting it. He seems frustrated with me and I'm frustrated and I'm not getting anywhere. My instructor has only been an instructor for 6 months. I don't know if that is why I'm not getting it. But everyone else in the class is. It would be nice if more than 2 people could practice maneuvering backwards at one time so I wouldn't have to share as much. I've been given extra time, but it's just not enough.

This is solid, and valid advice; although, they could try to sue him, and that would result in the court mandating him to pay it back or garnishing his wages. I hear that is never a fun process. Food for thought!Chinatown Thanks this. -
"thejohn" can Google and look at his state laws concerning that.HauntedSchizo19 Thanks this. -

I had a lot of problems in school learning how to back. Watched tapes several times and stumbled upon section that advised knowing which way the nose of the trailer needs to go. If nose needs to go right then turn the wheel to the right and back up. If nose needs to go left then turn left. What worked for 90% of the students did not work for me.

I'm aware about how to figure out which way the trailer needs to go. I'm struggling with turning the right amount and timing it right.

if you dont get your cdl A license with central you dont owe anything. The contract states you owe them $3000 only if you obtain a class A license. I went though their program and there was a few students who couldn't pass the test to get their cdl a....they were just sent home. Also I heard bad things about the TDA in sacramento. If you do pass your test and go with a trainer, pray that you get a good trainer.
