What are the Pros and Cons of the two ?
I've noticed the straight trucks seem to have better bigger sleepers and would seem easier to drive ..But I'm not sure how the pay would be in comparison..
I notice they pay different
say $.44 a mile vs 60/40 of the load .. Can we make as much driving a ST8 vs OTR ?
Maybe someone could enlighten me on what the pros and cons are to help me make a more informed decision ..
Thanks
Straight Truck Expedite Vs OTR Class A for a newbie husband and wife team..

From second hand knowledge,
A lot more sitting in expedited str8 truck work.
Works well for true O/O, not so for company/ lease .
Just 1 or 2 stories over the years.Interplanet Janet Thanks this. -
If you're willing to drive a semi, why not drive an expedite semi? And really... all the talk about sitting depends on many factors; a few of which are the company you're with, and whether you're solo or team. Teams do worlds better, on average, in expedite. And a t/t just gives you the most opportunities, IMO. But given the choice of a straight in expediting AS A TEAM, and driving OTR t/t as a team, I'd do expedite. But having choices outside of that, I'd do the expedite t/t.

Just remember expedite is a business not so much a job, your going to be making a lot of your own make it or break it decisions. I don't know the different factors or reason people go straight truck over tractor trailer or vice versa. I think it has something to do with in expediting the loads sometimes are not as big and it's a quick pick up and drop off and I think that's why they use the straight trucks with the big sleepers they show up get there pallet or two loaded and get rolling as fast as they can.

Expedite is feast or famine from month to month. Some aspects you have control over, some you have hardly any control over and have to ride out the slow spells and learn where to go and more importantly, where not to go. The first year can be a brutal learning experience and if you survive that, you may make it long term. But, much of the same can be said for any trucking O/O type gig, but expedite is more restrictive to your options and you will sit for extended periods, often.

I'm just wondering if we could make the same kind of money ST8 as OTR t/t.. we need $1500 or better take home a week after our 1st year
-
Depends, you got a lot of cash you're willing to risk burning a hole in your pocket? Any expediter option is going to be an o/o gig, meaning you'll need substantial cash to get started [properly].

Panther Expedite will hire you, probably running cargo van to start with.
You and wife would be better off financially to start your new career with a company like US Express, then take another look at expediting in a year. Meanwhile, join OOIDA to see what's involved in being an o/o.D33RHUNT3R Thanks this. -
