Hello,
I will (hopefully!) be going to school in July. I would like to get my medical card before I do so, because I would hate to spend $6000 on a course just to find out I can't pass the medical portion of it and then be out all of that money. I will probably be studying for my permit awhile (and probably getting it) to make it easier on myself while in school.
Do I need to have a medical card and then go for my permit? Or do I get my permit and then go for my medical card? I can't find any information on the order of which to do things, besides permit and then license (duh lol).
I live in Pennsylvania. I will be attending LCCC, for those wondering
Thank you in advance.

It might be the same elsewhere, but I'm not sure.
In California you need the med card before you can even get your CDL permit. I was actually just reading this on the DMV websitehoovified Thanks this. -
Same here in my state. DOT medical first, permit second.
sharkswitlazers and hoovified Thank this. -
Okay, that was what I was thinking but found it strange I couldn't find it any where. I Googled it and even have the Commercial Driver's Manual sitting right here and can't find it any where. It does make the most sense that way, which is why I was thinking it might be different LOL

Do they still give medical 'cards'? I got mine about 6 weeks ago and they told me that they only give you a medical form. There is no card to put in your wallet? Maybe only in California?

My ex boyfriend got a card... that wasn't very long ago. I don't know. I thought you needed a card, I think you get a temporary one and then a real one in the mail? Maybe someone who is an actual driver can answer that, as obviously I am not LOL

no medical card anymore. It is now part of your license.
DrPatCME Thanks this. -
Idk I did that med card merge thingy but I went back to get an endorsement and the dmv ask for my med card just to make sure everything is up to date...so I still carry mind

IN PA, according to PennDOT, you have to "Self Certify" before either getting a learners permit or transferring your CDL to the state.
Meaning, yes, you have to obtain a DOT Physical first and provide it when applying for your learners permit.
I'm sure in PA, like most schools, they schedule you for an exam right at the beginning.
