Hello, so i work in an industrial sheetmetal fabrication shop who mainly operates in califorina. We are a medium size shop employee numbers go up and down. I got my class A to kinda keep my self marketable during slow times witch leads to my question. We have a 1994 Freightliner with an Aspen lowbow trailer. The main purpose of the truck is to deliver forklifts, cranes or any other equipment or parts we need at job sites witch are usually local to the southern califorina area or as far as Fresno. (think i did 25 mph down the grapevine the first time) Recently we had a slow month and the owner asked me to drive some equipment to his ranch near Grants Pass, Oregon. Long story short, is Long Beach, CA to Corning CA a good day driving or should i be going further? Im crawling up the grapvine at 30 and like to stay about 60-63 mph. I could get to Redding but Corning has a TA a cheap motel and i can deal with the siskiyou pass in daylight. I have made the trip a few times now just wondering what professional drivers think.
Am i to slow?

Long Beach to Corning is 521 miles. That's a pretty good day in my eyes, especially on California's 55 mph highways. Don't worry about how fast others drive, set your own pace and just go the speed and distance you're comfortable with.
misterG, Puppage, AfterShock and 2 others Thank this. -
Some days I can barely get 350 miles paved out. Other days 600 miles might seem to fly by. I don't like to go over 58mph. In Cali I wouldn't go over the 55mph speed limit.
Most days I don't pass one person. Would you rather deal with heavy traffic or make it?double yellow and red562 Thank this. -
Between the slow crawl that you should do over grapevine. And much past 60 you are asking for a ticket.
Corning's cheap hotels and more plentiful parking makes it the better stopping spot.
I think you are doing it about right.red562 and ramblingman Thank this. -
Thanks , i figured i was doing alright would usually gauge it on trucks that would pass or i would see again. Also i was exhausted at the end of the day.

I wouldn't want to get pulled into the Cottonwood scales with my log book showing me picking up a load in Long Beach that morning...

Thanks again for the replies. I paid out of pocket to go to a school who in the end just seemed to teach you how to pass the test not real life. Looking back its kinda scary some of the guys who were in the class with me.

chp normally dont bother you if you do 60 mph as long as you are not doing something else unsafe. i do 60 all the time and never got a tix yet. but you got to be smart doing it. let the faster trucks go by, they'll attract the bears. but thats a nice run you did.
