Okay, Werner web site says average annual gross pay for a driver with less than one year experience is $37,306.

Can I take that to the bank? Has Werner done its figuring in a deceptive way to disguise the real average? Or are they just lying?

Also, Werner claims (on the web site again) that paperless log system makes the whole system more efficient; the upshot being that drivers have fewer paperwork worries and more money.

I'd love to hear from the Werner drivers on this.

Money claim, my paycheck is higher. But I am team. I make 21 cents per mile the truck goes, we go about 5-6000 a week. I've kept in touch with some I trained with. They are making 28 cents a mile, solo, going about 2000-2800 a week depending on the loads. If you are getting a higher cpm then you will do better, but the 37000 a year mark can be reached. Its not always going to be the same every week thats the biggest misconception (saide from the 'seeing the country and getting paid for it' roadtrip/vacation thought) I think about trucking is that your paycheck will be steady. Not really unless you are dedicated. It depends on freight. Now I know people on the Dollar General contract that make 900 a week about every week, they get off on weekends, but they have to move their own loads on and off so... it just depends on what you are wanting to do. Is it possible? Yes it is. But OTR its not exactly like you make 800 every week, more like 1200 one week 500 one week 300 one week, 800 one week, it can vary alot.

I for one like the paperless log system, a bunch. But I know countless others that loathe it. I was not taught how to cheat logs and was given very basic 'pass the CDL test' information on how to use paper logs. Thusly I haven't gotten 'used' to the idea of creative logging. You cannot creative log with Werner. Now this can be a good or bad thing depending on your ability to communicate with your dispatcher.

Firstly; you have 14 hours max from the time you start in the morning. You cannot have more. If you were paper logging this would not be set in stone as solidly with the computer logs it is SET IN STONE. Now I run team, which makes my life easier because there is still some creative logging that can be done when running team even with the paperless logs. But you have to be aware that there are cons as well as pros.

    Cons:

You cannot have more then 14 hours in a work day, so if the shipper takes crazy long to load you 'could' end up sitting there. My advice: Never go to a shipper with less then 2 hours on your 14 unless its a preload. Explain nicely to your dispatcher your predictament. Trust me here, nice and polite discord will lead to better outcomes.

You cannot drive more then 11 hours. Advice: Be sure to plan so that you are stopped when you clock is run out, remember to try and take into account traffic and allow 2 hours leeway to find a safe spot.

It can cut into your $$$ if you get a lot of loads that take forever to load/unload. This can suck. Advice: Be frank but polite with dispatch letting them know you are having issues with your paycheck due to shipper load/unload. They can in some cases pad your check to compensate unsavory load/unload times but this will NEVER work if you are nasty to them.

Paper logs will be harder to understand if/when you go back to them. I was good at them in school, they confuse me now. I would have to relearn before I could use them again.

The thing is not foolproof, you do have to check them. They have a habit of line 4 placing at random times which you have to correct. Correction is easy however.

    Pros:

You will almost NEVER have your logs checked by DOT. I've had several dot inspections 0 have looked at the logs.

You will never have to quickly find a place to 'fix' your log book before the scale or have to try and do it and drive.

DOT tends to leave you alone more. I can count on one hand how many times I've been pulled in to a scale, randomly inspected, and pulled behind the scale.

The logs are automatic in some cases, like when you start moving it auto puts you on line 3, auto puts you on line 4 when fueling, which is helpful if you forget alot.

Contrary to popular rumor, Werner CANNOT and DOES not 'shut you down' the moment your logs run out. They do send you a message warning you to shut down ASAP if you go over. If you are WAY over or do it alot they may need to have you take a test or have to have a talk with logs/safety about it.

Just wanted to mention to you, to do a little more homework on them , before you jump into anything, my husband fell for them to, and know he has a wrecked dac report. Afetr 2 1/2 months, they told him he had home, time even gave him a date, he ended up in for a repair, then they lied and told him they never approved home time. For the first 6 months, you will most likely get around 2500 miles, until they see what kind of driver you are. Check around on here, there is guite a few posts on here concerning them. Just do your homework first, my husband did not, and all I can say is I wish I had found this place first, very smart move to ask, and look into things .:biggrin_25519:

Not to discount you woodstock but there is a macro that has to be sent in for hometime, and then a notice will come for approval. If you husband did not send in the macro then no one knew the date. No one at Werner calls you or sends you a message and gives you a date. You give them a date.

I can vouch for the fact that Werner will do what they can to get us home. When we wound up late by 2 days for our hometime last year our dispatcher called us and profusely apologized. This year, just last week. Our truck was in for repairs and we were supposed to be home. We were in a terminal 1000 miles (actually higher) away from our hometime, and our truck was going to be down for 3-5 days. They gave us a rental car home and setup a new truck for us at the terminal near our hometime. Granted I hate the truck, but its the 'type' of truck not the quality I hate. >.>

So in closing, you husband may not have realized he needed to send a macro. Or he made the mistake of trusting one of the night time people because there are a couple of nightime/weekend people that are just MORONS. And they will say whatever they need to to get you off their phone/stop messaging them.

Yes Irocubabe, he did all of that, beacause he put in for a date, and they came back and told him they required 7 days , so he said ok. They then told him he could have the 17 through the 21st, and that he could only get 5 days, they both agred on that and everything was fine, then he wound up in repair for the radiator, on the 13th , he spent the first night on the side of the road, and then they towed it the next morning, the repair took 2 days, and then 2 more days for a payment code. When he got the truck back, he was already into his home time. When he contacted the dispatcher, he was told sorry you dont have home time, and with the holoiday you are looking at the 21st or th 22 cnd maybee later, this is after 2 1/2 months mind you, that was the last straw for him.Was also told in school, by recruiter that he would make 32 cents a mile, when he mentioned this to the trainer, he laughed, come to find out it was no where close to that. I could keep going, but I think you get the point.:biggrin_2554:

They told me 32 a mile too, and I did make that for the small period of time I soloed. But I have heard many people were told that and didn't make it. So thats a shady number I agree.

As for the hometime, may just be the dispatcher. Some are good and some are bad. I know of several I would like to explode.
