You need a NYC spiral bound map book.
You'll need written directions from another driver who knows the area.
Do not blindly follow the GPS.
If you get in a bind, STOP. The streets are narrow and not well marked, but everyone from the locals to the police are VERY HELPFUL.
These are all things our company did for us before we made our first trip to Hunts Point last year.

It's good you aren't intimidated, 'cuz then your brain will stay engaged.
Hunts Point is very friendly. There's plenty of parking. And a great chinese restaurant will deliver to your truck.

Go slow, b/c you'll have to read the street signs and arrows and you don't get much warning before you have to turn.

I'll let others on here with more experience give you more specific info if they choose.
Write down your directions in a very specific, sequential manner.

    Have Fun and Stay Safe.

Get intimidated, and stay that way. The most common and dangerous truck driver error might be overconfidence.

No one is competent to operate a truck among oblivious motorists, nor can they be made so. Any motorist is liable to do anything, at any time, without any warning.

Or, you can do it like virtually everyone else; assume they aren't going to do anything stupid enough to get run over by a truck because they haven't yet.

    Good luck!

hmmm, 2 drivers in a team truck, and neither with any amount of real-world experience. That would make for a GREAT reality tv show. Put several go-pro cams in and around that truck and let the entertainment begin!

Also, make sure you have an exit strategy BEFORE you go in. i.e. don't go in without a pre-plan back out. I assume (hope) you have ez-pass?

Somewhere in this forum there is a thread devoted to NYC driving and I'm certain there is a Hunts Point thread in there somewhere.

wow, that brings back memories. FFE did that to me on my first solo run as well. one reason i'm no longer with ffe...
    1. have cash to pay to get into hunts point. back then i think it was $25. not sure if that's still right.
    2. if you use a Rand Mcnally GPS, it may not route you across the GW. (mine didn't.)
    3. i hope ya'll have ez pass to pay the gw toll.
    4. when i was there they weren't enforcing the no idle policy..but there were signs regarding it everywhere.
    5. the Chinese delivery was pretty tasty.
    6. Don't get in a hurry either on the way in or on the way out. take your time.
    7. keep some cash on ya cause you never know what you may run into. ( i needed a lane blocked so i could make a turn, paid a tow truck driver $20 to turn his lights on and stop traffic for me. best $20 i ever spent in the north east.)

best of luck and be safe there drivers.

thank you all for the advice everyone . yes it wluld make for great reality tv lol . my fellow driver and i went to the school to pick up our certificate of completion and these two gentlemen were there . they offered on the spot positions . we are the companies first ever drivers . im excited about the oppurtunity to gain experience but not to crazy about two rookies . it will most definitely be an adventure . i am a former devil dog so i am up for the challenge with courage and commitment , but #### it boy , there is nothing that can make up for lack of experience . texas to ny . bring it !
