This frustrated me to no end until I finally figured out how to get them to load this morning (followed by an 8 hour CBT marathon).
If anyone else was having the same problem I was, a popup warning would show when attempting to load the computer based training courses. The reason this is happening is because the training course is run on an outdated version of Java. As a security feature, more recent versions of Java won't run older versions due to security flaws in the older versions. To be given the option to run the program, I did the following (Windows 7, Chrome browser):
-Upon attempting to access the course, I was given a popup saying that the website couldn't get access to load up (I don't remember the exact wording)
-Before closing out the popup, make sure you note down the web address that is being blocked, as you'll need to enter it later. (I'm not including it here, as I'm not very computer savvy and don't want to open a door for the ill-intentioned).
-Once you have the web address written down, log out of Schneider U and Crossroads.
-Check to make sure you have the most recent version of Java. (java.com/verify) If not, download the most recent version.
-Go to the 'Start' menu, then select 'All Programs'
-Go to 'Java', and then select 'Configure Java' from the sub-menu. This will bring up the Java Control Panel.
-On the Java Control Panel, click the 'Security' tab at the top.
-In the 'Security' tab, you'll see a button near the bottom that says "Edit Site List". Click that button.
-Click 'Add'. This will bring up an empty text-entry field. In this field, enter the web-address that was in the pop-up. Click 'OK'.
-A warning will come up saying that http addresses are considered a security risk, I continued anyway under the assumption that I wouldn't get malware from Schneider's website.
-This brings you back to the Java Control Panel, clicking OK will close the window.
-Now try logging back into Crossroads and attempting the computer training again.
-When you attempt to access the course, you should receive a security prompt asking you if you want to proceed. I had to check a box and click to proceed, and the CBT module loaded afterward.
I still can't access Crossroads at all on Internet Explorer 11, and when I tried it with Firefox I made it to Schneider U, butit said I had to install a plug-in though none were available. Fortunately, this worked for me with my favorite browser, Chrome.
The process should be similar for XP and Windows 8, it's just a matter of accessing Java's control panel to add the URL to the site list. I have no idea about Apple OS, and if you're running Linux you know more about this stuff then I do.
I'm not sure how many people have this issue, or if anyone else but me did, but this is how I got it to run. Much easier to do it on your own computer than trying to get on one at the OC.
EDITED TO ADD: If, upon initially attempting to start the course, you don't get any pop warnings but just see the frame the course is suppose to be in as blank white, check the address bar next to the 'bookmark' star symbol to see if there is a gray-colored 'shield' icon there. If so, click it. This will show a drop down message that will require you to click 'Load unsafe script' (due to it running on an older version of Java). From there, you can continue with the steps as noted. I'm not sure if this is a feature of my anti-virus or of Java itself, thus its exclusion from the steps above.
For those who can't get on CBT's w/ personal laptop...

Had the same problem, couldn't load on my personal computer. Well try this next time I have to do cbt
-
So I've tried twice to do the CBTs on my Mac. I get all the way through them and then I'd learn from my DBL that it didn't record that I completed it and I had to do it again. Now I just suck it up and do them at an OC.

dtcscout Thanks this.

Very interesting

I am having the biggest problem doing CBT's on my PC. I have looked at your instructions but still nothing, I got them to work on Internet Explorer but I don't think it is saving the progress. But I cannot get them to work on Chrome. I have done everything I can think of. When I do it on Chrome it keeps giving me a "C3 SCORM Runtime SCO Loadpage() Problem. I called Schneider IT's and there's nothing they can do. I really don't want to go sit a the OC and do CBT's.
-
I quit trying to fight it. Just do them at an OC. outdated tech from a compnay at the forefront of BS truck tech. -
Its a pain for those of us that don't get through any OC's. I can't ever get it to work on my pc.
