I drive a 2010 Prostar and like all the other Swift trucks, there are two idle shutdowns. The factory is a warning light on the instrument cluster while th other is throuh the Qualcomm. On the Prostar, both are defeated with the clutch pedal but the factory, dash light, can take 15 minutes to show. None of this is any help to answer this thread's question.

    Highflight-
I can't magine the cruise control method for idle shutdown control
not working as it is standard on Freighliner.

    1) set brakes
    2) turn cruise control on
    3) press the 'set' button

Shouldn't have to wait - 4 min. etc to do it.
The idle will jump up by 50-100 rpm
Sometimes it doesn't 'take'.... no jump in rpm.
    Do steps 2&3 again.

    Let us know ...

Edit: air brakes, accelerator, brake pedal, clutch will kick it off

392.4 FMCSA manual. Read it. That's the law.

Bet you can make better money elsewhere as a solo driver, not have to worry about idling.

I would follow the chain of command DM first and up the line if necessary. Email and either on the phone or face to face.

Swift doesn't give a #### about you one way or the other.

I have driven several 2012 Cascadias from Ryder, and Penske. I did the over ride by turning on the cruise. If Swift has that disabled they are shameless ########. (stating the obvious) If you are worried about your job you need to reassess your career at Swift or grow a pair and slap 392.4 in their face.

    Document your emails.

Time to explain the facts to your people. Summer is coming. It is not uncommon to sit in Laredo in the heat waiting for a load. Too hot and dangerous down there to sit with the windows open.

I never stayed at the terminal. I always stayed at the "J."

Unless you are in love with OTR you have enough experience to stay at home.

Just putting it out there, but if you are handy at DIY stuff, you might consider buying a small 2000 watt generator at Home Dopet for about $600 and a portable air conditioner for about $300 to use for cooling your truck. You could write this entire investment off on your taxes as well so it will be like it is free.

I highly suggest you take another look at the tax codes. It would be far from free. The current government may be good at spending money, but not that good.

Either way, I'm not handy and don't feel like spending $900 on a company truck, no matter how much I could claim in taxes.

Sure, its possible... A parked regeneration isn't accomplished by idling, or even high idling. When a parked regeneration occurs, the motor throttles itself up to 1700 rpm's for upwards of forty minutes.

The idle shutdown timer has nothing to do with this.

If your "bud's" Cascadia keeps shutting down when he has to do a parked regen, he's not properly executing the steps to start the regen process.

Swift won't allow anything on the cat walk. And dang sure will love the hole you hack into the sleeper!
