A lot of it comes down to personal work ethic, attitude, and rellationship building.
Swift or Schneider, and check Millis.
And yes, we'll hunt you down and "TOLD YOU SO" till your ears bleed if you go to CRE.
Good luck

I have not worked for either. But I have to say that blair has the right idea. Swift and Schneider seem to have some of the better programs, or Central, which is now owned by swift. Always was owned by their owner, now it is owned by the company. I ran for them for several years. Good dedicated positions, and good miles.
Swift has the largest freight base in the industry, and the most dedicated accounts. Comes from being almost 2x larger than it's largest competitor. This also leads to the distain you will see from allot of drivers. When I started driving it was JB hunt that got all the crap, back when they were larger than swift is now.
CRE is a no go. Don't even think about it. Garbage company, team driving, or leasing. Very few good dedicated lanes. -
Leather helmet,
As long as you have your DD214 to prove an honorable discharge from the military they will deduct a grand total of $0.00 from your check for the school and if you stay with them for 13 months you will not owe them a dime. But you may find that you like it and hang out here with us for many years to come.
If you can put forth an above average effort in your work you will do just fine. Just remember to network and every phone number you get ahold of save it so you have planners and DL's and dedicated accounts across the country at your disposal. -
I'm a Swift driver for a bit over a year. They have been fair to me, my checks always on time. I started out of the Troutdale OR terminal and had a great Driver Manager-Rick. I moved back to Charlotte and am currently doing intermodel and really liking being home every night(well sorta home I am looking to buy a house). I know not all Driver Managers/Planners are the same but mine have REALLY helped me out a lot making this move from west-east. I plan on staying on the intermodel. Swift has been pretty good to me overall. PM me if you want any more details

I've never had a hard time getting home with swift. Simply put they have more freight than other companies. Every once in a while I see drivers complaining about the miles. I never have that issue. Dallas has a lot of OTR drivers saying they get 150 miles a day for three days and then they get a load out of the area. When I go to Dallas I ask if they need help on local runs or shuttles, and usually do three or so a day at 450-500 miles a day and then get a 1200+ mile run as a thank you. At swift you get what you put in. If you'll run, they'll run you hard as you want.
Kindle Thanks this. -
As much as I have poked fun at SWIFT over the years, I'm really glad to see some positive comments about them. This was not something you saw on the forum here, even a couple of years ago. They must be doing something right for a change. It used to be, (just like it currently is for CRE,) that any positive posts for SWIFT were so obviously written by folks who were not drivers there. Glad to see it is changing!

I don't believe any of us would take the time to read, let alone respond to posts, if we didn't care a bit about the industry that we are, (or in some cases were,) involved in. Seriously.inkeper, A21CAV, pattyj and 1 other person Thank this. -
went to an appointment this morning to see if I qualify for Federal funds for retraining, if so I am going to go to my local school I think then hire on from there, seems maybe a better fit to come home every day from training versus living in a school dorm/motel for a month.....Last edited: Nov 5, 2014
