parking

I found this from a study done by the department of transportation in 2002 concerning truck parking and what should be done about it
Table 17. Parking space utilization: Demand/supply ratio along interstates and other NHS routes carrying more than 1,000 trucks per day.

1Alaska did not report the number of commercial parking spaces; however, the number of public spaces exceeded the estimated total demand.

If you think parking at truck stops is a hit and miss proposition, wait until you have to compete with wealthy "Tree Service" companies (that can afford to purchase or lease property to "stage" their crews) who take up valuable spots at your favorite truck stops. There were 9 DAVEY TREE trucks and chippers taking up 15 PARKING SPACES at the TA on I-94 in Dexter, MI (just outside Ann Arbor). About 3/4 of the other spaces are taken up by IdleAir.
Truckers

Here is the complaint I posted on the Davey Tree Web site:
Quote:
I have had over 22 years experience doing line-clearance and private tree trimming before retiring in 1994 to drive a semi-truck.
On Jan 12, 2008, I stopped at the Dexter, MI Travel Centers of America for fuel. As I was leaving, I noticed 9 of your trucks taking up 15 parking spaces at this TA.
While it is important for your company to have a "Staging Area" close to where you are working, it is MORE IMPORTANT for truck drivers to have a safe place to park and take their necessary and MANDITORY "10 HOUR" break. When we (truck drivers) are forced to compete with non-semi trucks for needed parking spaces, it places US at a disadvantage and places an undue burden upon us to find other available parking. Knowing Michigan as I do, there is a marked shortage of available parking, particularly in the south-eastern end of the state.

I have already complained to the TA Corporate Office about your crew's inconsiderate use of much needed parking and I have posted a photo in a "Truck Parking" thread of a FORUM I belong to. You may read what I posted here: [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

Nice, let us know if they reply. I'd really like to hear what kind of spin a corporate pencil pusher comes up with.
