    • All 2009 Engine Models must meet Ultra-Low-Emissions TRU standard.
    • All 2002 Engine Models that met Low-Emissions TRU standard in 2009 must now meet Ultra-Low-Emissions TRU standard.
You have to know what has been done on the older reefers. Some older looking trailers may have had new engines installed under the covers. CA also allowed you to modify the reefer engines to meet the CARB requirements, so yes, you will see older units. The requirements are getting stricter so more mods will be required on the older stuff.
A new Carrier engine that is compliant for the next 7 years runs $10K installed. The rest of the reefer unit is fine.
