Just recently learned this is an actual thing, like people do that. My question is, why? Could see if it was brand new, fresh off the lot, but I'm talking about trucks that folks lease from these mega-carriers.

Some people want to say they "leased" a truck. Rarely are they asked if they drove it!

Because mega-carriers only have lease programs because they respect you as a driver and like you personally. They will lease you a truck with no credit check and no money down as a personal favor to you, and you can rest assured that your financial well being is their top priority. They will always be looking out for your best intrest.

I thought about it but you would need to lease minimum 5 trucks to make it worthwhile. Each leased truck that you hire a driver for is only going to produce ~+- $200 bucks a week to you which is barely enough to cover maintenance. However with 5 trucks you can amass a little bit of cash and gamble that only one truck at a time will need a repair at any given time.

Often we don't get the trucks till just before orientation. My new lease truck will be in this coming Friday and I start orientation next Monday. Most of us are too far away from the terminal of orientation to drive up to take a test drive. I have owned 2 prior trucks of this make so I am going on previous background.

I think there is an initial inspection you perform when you first see it, and anything you find wrong they fix.

Does the carrier help the person leasing the trucks find drivers?
