My husband is about to go to an interview tomorrow to be a pilot car driver and I am nervous. I can't find a lot of info online about the risks associated with this form of work. My mom was a pilot car driver, but I was so young I don't remember anything other than listening to the cb! So. Questions. Answers or even places to find answers would be appreciated.
Other than time away from home, what are the cons of this job? My husband has been otr for three years, is it comparable?
How often are pilot cars blamed for accidents involving their' charge'? Is the blame usually warranted? Or is the pilot car often blamed for the rig drivers mistakes?
How difficult will the transfer from dry vans to being a pilot car and watching someone else's butt really be?
I'm pregnant and my husband doesn't want to stress me, so he won't even tell me how confident he is that the transition will be easy... I just want the truth. I hope someone can give it! Thanks guys!
Pilot cars and accidents, who's to blame?

Why is he going from driving a truck OTR to a pilot car driver, OTR I'm guessing? Kind of backwards IMO
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I see pilot cars around here all the time, usually escorting double wide homes from manufacturers. One good thing, they only drive during daylight hours.
