My husband is about to go to an interview tomorrow to be a pilot car driver and I am nervous. I can't find a lot of info online about the risks associated with this form of work. My mom was a pilot car driver, but I was so young I don't remember anything other than listening to the cb! So. Questions. Answers or even places to find answers would be appreciated.

Other than time away from home, what are the cons of this job? My husband has been otr for three years, is it comparable?

How often are pilot cars blamed for accidents involving their' charge'? Is the blame usually warranted? Or is the pilot car often blamed for the rig drivers mistakes?

How difficult will the transfer from dry vans to being a pilot car and watching someone else's butt really be?

I'm pregnant and my husband doesn't want to stress me, so he won't even tell me how confident he is that the transition will be easy... I just want the truth. I hope someone can give it! Thanks guys!

I was about to post an article about a pilot car height stick wasn't right and the truck brought a bridge down, buttttt you said that, so I'm not gna post it......probably shouldn't even mention it.......

    Good luck with the job!

Talk to your husband. This is something you and him have to work out, if he feels he can do the job who are we to say one way or the other.

Why is he going from driving a truck OTR to a pilot car driver, OTR I'm guessing? Kind of backwards IMO

I see pilot cars around here all the time, usually escorting double wide homes from manufacturers. One good thing, they only drive during daylight hours.

    It's
not that I don't think he can do the job, I'm just a risk analyst type of person. I want the facts. Does that make sense?

He likes driving for the travel. In a pilot car, he feels he will make comparable pay, with a more flexible vehicle to do some close by exploring from time to time

Then you need to get these from him, not trying to sound rude but he should have all the info you need and I don't want to add to a situation where it ends up being

"Here look what these guys said online. I knew you were not telling the truth."

    Lol
Read it. Lol. It's the only info I've been able to find. My husband is over protective. Not knowing is more stressful

WHoa. He doesn't have it either. He talked to a guy on the phone for 15 minutes and the info he got was' we'll train you' this is how big the loads are, and come here tomorrow for an interview. The idea that you think I would treat my husband like that is kind of insulting honestly.... I'm a trucker wife, former dispatcher, driver manager and office administrator. My place is to support my husband, he has enough drama on the road. So the idea that I would be looking for something to sabotage his confidence, or to start drama is just kind of insulting. Any who. I am just looking for information. Not drama.
