    I so want the pleasure of driving my own rig, going where I want, when I want, choosing from whatever is available, discriminating as I please. This is what the primary objective should be in the trucking industry. Drivers should have the freedom and the choice to design how freight is transported in this country. WE should be able to contact shippers directly, and get loaded through their driver services extension line. Instead of load boards showing us loads, it will just show us which shippers have loads, and we can call them up and inquire. The independent driver should be enabled enough so that every driver would want to become one.

    We're all part of a much larger, very complicated transportation system driven by the consumer who is, very often, fickle and scatterbrained, in which almost no part has much "freedom." All we can do is make the most of the part in which we play a part.

    Its hard to trust people who negotiate on the behalf of others when they don't take nearly the same amount of risk as the others. The ones who don't stand a chance to go negative need to get out of this all together, unless of course, we are talking about company drivers. Most people live a stretch beyond their means, and will take what they need to stay within reach. Brokers shouldn't have the luxury to live that way at our expense.

    It is good to have dreams but the picture you paint will never happen. Primarily because humans want control and do not trust the human standing next to them. After all, we are just talking monkeys on an organic space ship flying through space.(!) In my dream I drive team with Ms Universe in a KW 900 with 156" ARI sleeper getting $10 a mile with reserved parking every night. On the weekends a naked Ms Universe rides her pink Unicorn while I drink beer and eat Cheetos and watch. (Yes, i am on winter shut down and really bored)

    You're crazy. You're bored out of your mind. And you're fantasizing. That's not what trucking is about. That sounds more like a self-employed lone truck operation that has no responsibility to profit except to live within the means he feels comfortable with.
