ever notice how when they are busy they only run 2 registers, or in some cases 1, and, likewise have 1 or 2 people behind the counter when its busy. but when the line dies down to 3-5 people in line they open up the third register? why do they do that?

This isn't just a problem with a few of them, I go to alot of Pilots and flying J's and they all do it, its like its company policy or something

This looks like mismanagement on the part of the either the store or the company.

They're same as Wal-Mart lol, it's based on customer count per man hour in my opinion, less equals more in their eyes. They're a 30 billion dollar annual business go figure

    they ALL do that,

well, just the actual stores, the third-party companies who sell their fuel don't do it (Road Ranger, Boselmanns, Kangaroo, i'm sure there are others)

The longer you're standing around, the more likely you'll make an impulse purchase.

Consider that the next time you're lined up next to those tables of movies and candy bars.

does Walmart keep 2/3 extra people on staff just to run a register when it gets full/empty? I find it hard to believe they do, they aren't just going to keep those people lying around and paying them to do nothing

and due to the fact its a $30,000,000,000 business I usually don't argue with them, I disagree with the way they run their DC's however

I must be stupid, I don't buy movies or candy bars impulsively because i'm in line, I don't buy movies at truck stops, and I don't like to lose my spot in line

My favorite is being second in line when the next register opens. The third or fourth person always runs up. I always say "yea man go ahead" I get a blank retarded stare every single time because they don't know if I am being sincere or a d**khead. I'm being a d**khead BTW.

It's not just Pilot. It's every chain. When the card readers don't work at Petro/TA which for me is 50% of the time and especially the old ones! it never fails that there is one person working and 10 guys in line. Same at Loves, the girl working the fuel desk also has to clean showers and make coffee or some such BS.

You don't have to, the stuff is set up right where people line up.

Besides, you're getting hung up on specifics. Look at any display that is set up where drivers tend to line up. Eventually it'll sink in.
