Another one not looking out the windshield and driving on the shoulder.

Is this happening more often or is it just the instant technology that brings us every accident in the country?

    Hope the drivers recover.
One question i have is, Did the truck on the shoulder with the blown tire have his triangles out?
More and more i see trucks on the shoulder, blown tires, hoods open, fluids running out from under the tractor, and other obvious signs the truck is broke down. Maybe the 4 ways are on.
But no triangles out. And if they are, they may have one right at the rear of the trailer. But more often, no triangles.
If someone runs into the back of them, the lawyers will have a field day.
This is part of the job. Just like pre-trips.

If a cop pulls off behind a broke down truck on the side of the road without triangles, you get a ticket and truck towed. No explanations nor excuses acceptable

That's why Landstar has the "no sitting duck" policy. If a Landstar operator is found on the side of the road without being broken down, it's an automatic lease termination.

must folks call that crazy, but I call it professional.

Blown tire? Why not drive to the nearest ramp. Seriously drivers unless it's completely off the rim, do yourself, repairman, and travelers a favor and pull into a ramp. All the times I did, the tire man thanks me and even shake my hand. Drove 4 miles slowly on the shoulder till I reach a ramp once.

    I was there
looked like first driver lost a brake cylinder and was dragging it to the shoulder
the set of doubles slammed him
then everything was burning just before daylight
was 45 minutes before help arrived
must have burned a couple hours

then the fun started back up to evanston trucks everywhere
i ran up 89 to 39 over to SLC
    39 is pretty much a goat path.........sigh

Did you even read the article? There was a problem with the brakes that prevented the driver from getting the truck all the way out of the lane of travel. The second driver hit him while he was partially blocking the right lane. Article does not state how long the truck was there before being struck from behind. It seems the same people are here everyday making wild and inaccurate speculation on wrecks they have no first hand knowledge of.

One wonders if the second truck could not get over due to multiple vehicles along side and also didn't realize it was in the roadway ... or did he simply see a truck and assumed it was parked safely on the shoulder and didn't give it another thought and went on about his day-dreaming and not even bothered to move over a little. I could't get the story to load on my bad data connection here. Was there any mention of how long the broke down truck may have been sitting there prior to the collision?

    Marksteven Thanks this.
