Hello drivers and prospective drivers. I wanted to post my quick review and 'plug' for DCS School of Driving in York, PA. Rather than write a paragraph or a short story, I'll just list points that I think separate this school from others. The one 'negative' I'll say, if you can even call it a negative, is that the instructors can be intense at times. They push you to get better, but never push you beyond what you feel comfortable doing. If I had to do it over again, I definitely would go to this school again. Here's the breakdown:
    1. 200 hour program - more than meets the needs of most companies who require around 170 hours from schools
    2. road trips are done primarily on back roads, cities and towns. any school that only takes you on the highway is doing you a huge disservice. you will also get experience with night driving.
    3. they teach you to couple / uncouple trailers - i've heard that some schools don't even cover this
    4. classes are only up to 6 students
    5. beginning yard skills are taught on automatic day cabs so you can focus on the maneuvers w/o also trying to shift, all road trips are done in the manual transmission, and towards the end of the course, yard skills are also done on the manuals
    6. you will learn on a 13 speed Kenworth T600, and the last week of school will get time in a 10 speed since that is what most companies use
    7. CDL skills testing for PA license is done on-sight
    8. they will screen you like a company, requiring a DOT physical and drug test, and will not accept you if you have a DUI that's less than 3 years old, or certain other traffic violations, in other words, they are not a CDL mill and actually care about the students as well as their reputation for putting out a quality graduate
    9. they are on the accepted list of most mega carriers, and recruiters from companies like Crete / Shaffer, TMC, McElroy, Schneider will visit your class. even some LTL companies hire out of the school, like Old Dominion and Conway
    10. they have a payment program

I think I covered all the important points. I went to the 8 week evening class. They always have their 4 week day classes running, evening and weekends are available.

Yep, trucking school ain't cheap. But comparatively speaking, it's much cheaper and probably more useful than a 40K piece of framed paper on a wall that says you went to college ;)
