I have a 2006 C13.... I have read about all the little thngs you can do to a C15 to gain a few hp and some MPG w/o dumping a ton of cash into a ECM and such and was wondering of there was anything that can be done to the C13 to the same effect? Such as bigger fuel pump springs, maybe unplug this or that??? I'm new to the CAT motor scene and am just looking for some info and advice/guidance. I'm not expecting anything amazing, but a .2mpg gain would greatly help
C13 upgrades, mpg tips and HP tips??

There are plenty of threads already at TTR concerning C13 upgrades, at least one of which you've already posted to. Do a search up in the box...
It seems one of, if not the most knowledgeable "all things Cat" resource on TTR is Mr. Haney, who has scores of satisfied customers in these parts. If you're sincere about seeing gains in performance, once on a thread he monitors, tell him what you'd like to do and ask that he get in touch. Ask what rpm's put you in the "sweet spot" with the Cat for MPG... it may be lower than you're used to with the DD.
As for gaining a few hp and some MPG "w/o dumping a ton of cash"... in your own post here you calculate saving $125 a week doing your 2700 mile route for each .5 mpg gain. How long would it take to pay off any mods beyond the fuel wire? Friends have recovered their costs within 6 months... beyond that, they're in the plus column.
I'm curious as to what MPG you're getting presently with the 387, C13 Cat, compared to the 8.5-9.0mpg you got with the FLD120 and S-60? That was outstanding performance... Both, sharp trucks...
Best wishes in your hunt! -
I was not sure if the fuel-wire mod was good for a C13. I read it worked great on the C15, and figured it was the same, but didn't know.
As for my MPG, it's nowhere near what my S-60 was. That truck had 3.90 rears and was at about 1,400rpm at 60mph and I was getting 8.0-8.5 daily. My 387 is at 1,200rpm at 60mph and I'm getting about 7.85, and at 65 (1350rpm) I'm getting about 7.25. I pull empty tanks and run the exact same route every week.
Anyways, thanks for the info and I will keep on looking for more answers -
The C13 will respond to the same modifications of the C15. Get rid of the mufflers/catalytic converters and install a free flowing muffler or straight pipe. The fuel wire works exactly the same as the C15. Tuning the ECM will help, I've used a European Emission 500 hp 1750 Torque file with fair resultsin power and fuel mileage increases, but PDI does have tuned files for these engines as well. Power is increased along with fuel mileage with a PDI tune. The only thing I can't tell you about is if increasing fuel pressure helps or not. The primary fuel filter base and filter should be upgraded to the high flow replacements, if this hasn't been done already.

I will be removing the mufflers ASAP!
I'm guessing the 150ohm resistor is what I need for fuel wire, just like the C15.
As for the fuel filter and housing, my motor does not have a davco like my 15 did, its just a plain old filter with a valve on the bottom. I am thinking of going to a FASS System, which is a bit pricey....anything you can suggest cheaper? -
Interested in this "fuel wire" mod
