I'm going to Orientation next week and looking for some insight from those who attended in the past. I have all the items on their checklist. Think I'm prepared just curious about their DOT physical and road test? And how long did it take you to get a trainer or did you have to go to another terminal? Thanks

I'm kinda curious as to why you are going there given all the glowing reports on them . . . .Good luck ! Post your experience here!

They were not my first choice, and I've heard the negative about the company. I want to get experience and move on to something local in my area. I think all companies have their issues but I'm going to see how things work out that's all I can I do.

I am currently with Werner am happy.. I went through orientationtation in Omaha, but they are all about the same, the physical is just a basic one to make sure you are healthy enough and a drug test, as far as how long it takes to get a trainer depends on how many restrictions you have.. like non smoker, female waiting for female trainer,... but they try to get you with a trainer soon as they pay you the same whether you are in the trainers truck or in the hotel waiting for a trainer..
I went througn two trainers, mh first was a female and was not a good trainer.. but, all I had to do was call my student manager and they got me on another trainers truck and he was a great trainer..
After training, i got assigned my truck and started on a dedicated account and I am happy with it, they keep me running I am earning a good paycheck and I have a good fleet manager..
You will hear a lot of negative comments about werner.. but I am happy with them..
Good luck to you and keep us updatedPuppage, SMPARKER74, DriveItUSA and 1 other person Thank this. -

dot physical is basic.
i waited about 5 days for my trainer. he would have been in sooner if not for massive blizzard in the rockies. didnt have to go to another terminal.
check out my thread in this forum on my experience. I am in my 4th week of training with 108.50 hours completed and 166.50 hours to go.
be advised, there is not a lot of freight going to Florida via Werner so they may assign you to the Atlanta, Georgia terminal or put you on some local florida dedicated account where you will get .30-.35 cpm, and 1500-1700 miles a week and you have to unload your own truck.
one of the girls that worked for Werner who was in my hotel room during orientation lived in Florida and she had that problem. she ended up quitting and going somewhere else because she didnt want to commute 3 hours to Atlanta to go to work. and they wouldnt let her take her truck home because it was a swap out truck every week.SMPARKER74 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info DriveItUSA. Yes I have been following your post daily
DriveItUSA Thanks this. -
Did you see if you were eligible for Conway Truckload, Roehl, or even one of the Comcar companies?
How about Knight? -
I applied to Knight and they called me 2 weeks later, by that time I already decided to go with Werner.

They also have a Shuttle bus they run between Florida, Lakeland I think, and Atlanta. You park in Atlanta and use the bus to get home for hometime. They slipseat the drivers who are in this program. Not for everyone, but works for some.DriveItUSA and SMPARKER74 Thank this.
