Former ELD provider One20 has announced that it will be closing down. All One20 ELDs will go offline on June 18th, 2018. Drivers who currently use One20 will have to find, install, and start properly using a different ELD before then. And reports are surfacing from customers that some One20 ELDs are already shutting down.
One20 offered ELD services with no monthly fee for small carriers. This prompted some skeptics to ask how a company could continue operating without revenue every month. As it turns out, they couldn’t. And after truckers bought their devices (which are still listed for sale by retailers including Walmart, Overstock, and B&H) for around $140-$160, they are now having to get started with a new service and new equipment.
On the company’s website, One20 states that they will offer refunds for equipment that drivers purchased. However only unopened equipment that was purchased after March 18th, 2018 will be eligible for a refund. So if you already opened your box, that now non-functional $140 piece of equipment is yours to keep.
While One20’s ELD company may be shutting down, there are other One20-related companies that aren’t going away. One20 President and CEO, Christian Schenk, announced that his other companies would be consolidated into TruckThat Holdings, a company where he is currently founder and CEO.
“We wanted to bring it all together, and as part of that, existing investors made the decision it would be easier to close [One20 Inc.] than to sell it off,” Schenk said according to Overdrive. “The current investors didn’t want to continue, and it was easier for them to just close the doors.”
According to Schenk, all of the other companies will be rebranded under the TruckThat name, but will otherwise be unchanged.
Any legal challenge of Schenk or TruckThat’s new holdings by unhappy customers will likely be difficult as each of Schenk’s companies was a separate entity.

Yeap. They found yet another way to suck money out of drivers. ELD mandate is in effect since december 2018. What about those who bought One20 ELD’s from then till march and installed them? Now they need to buy a different ELD’s and then pay some guy or a shop to remove the old and install a new one. Hell of a job guys. Very elaborate way to get into truckers pockets. Just leave us alone. We were doing fine without all this nonsense and look what is happening now. I dont think it will end there
Why would someone buy an ELD and keep in unboxed? What a joke
Alan that’s what I’m saying 2! They are stupid and money hungry that’s all…
All these suckers who bit into their scheme
Simple answer. A nationwide trucker boycott against TruckThat, and any other company that those investors/owners try to turn it into.
Truck drivers are not toys to be played with by these kinds of people. We’re people with lives, hopes, dreams and families. People who try to do to us what TruckThat is doing, need to be sent the message that we will not stand for it and there will be consequences for trying to do it to us.
In short, we need to bankrupt TruckThat utterly. I will never buy another of their products for as long as I live.
Yes the trucker is a very powerful team if only they could stick together we could stop this abuse but only if we stick together something it’s can’t seem to be done so far
This is the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully many small truckers did a lot of shopping before they decided what to buy in an ELD. There will be others that will follow this company and those who are using their product will have to deal with it. Thanks FMCSA and mega carriers. Your efforts to shut down small truckers are working little by little.
Truck that, truck them, and truck all these idiots who think they know our industry better than us! Truck ‘em all!
That’s exactly why I have a garmin GPS with the ELD and it doesn’t charge a monthly subscription and it works great……
Zed connect by cummins still free and, fairly decent
Have used both QUALCOMM (Omnitracs) and currently Rand McNally.
QUALCOMM is the best ! ! !…..IF you gotta have it that is…
Anyone who have that ELD should get together and get a class action lawsuit attorney. This sounds like a scam from the beginning. No monthly fees?🤔🤔🤥🤥🤥
I have it and I’m pretty pissed off at the moment!!
May be hard to challenge separate entities, but there could be some fraud there with the CEO of all those companies. That is millions in hardware sales in just a few short months. Class action time!
sounds just like the interchangable Fly By Night Trucking companies out here.
A bit of research into the mans last name will show many same such dealings dating at least as far back as the early 1800s, and many other type questionable schemes since the 1860s up until today..not saying involving this man, nor his kin..but the last name seems to show up often.,
He sold snake oil too
Truckers are seen as cash cows, price of diesel high, ELDs, higher fines, higher tolls, etc. Hard to make a living when every dimwit is trying to stick their hands in our pockets. Imagine if we did the same to politicians? A lot more would get done.
Its similar to the Gold Rush of 1849. SOME miners made a bundle. Many just a living.
The REAL big winners…consistently…the guys who sold the mules, beans, shovels, pick-axes etc.
Everyone wants to get their hand in your pocket for sure ! ! !
Very well said
I bet that was their plan from the beginning. Snatch and run…
agree!
He sold snake oil too
Anyone running the ONE20 eld can download the app Drive eld and use coupon code ONE20….they stepped up and are taking all the former ONE20 customers..it is free if you have 5 trucks or less.
No equipment to buy, just change the app and you are up and running.
Many of these ELD vendors are using the same GPS module…
Yes I can’t believe the government is letting this company away with that what a freaking rip-off
Watching the ELD saga progress reminds me of the early days of PC’s. Who remembers Eagle, Kaypro or DEC? Or how about the Lisa? or PC Jr?
My point is the ELD course of development will likely provide success for those who currently have the deepest pockets.
If I were to purchase a system today (I’ve thankfully retired), I would look to the ‘big dogs’, who likely won’t be around in a few years, but will have been bought out by the likes of Microsoft and Apple, but at least will have upgrade paths to protect the original investments.
Those big guys are likely sitting on the sidelines to see who is likely to survive, then will swoop down and purchase them.
ELDs are here to stay, whether we like them or not.
Personally, I’d stick with Qualcomm or Rand McNally or possibly Garmin, as the others will likely simply become paperweights.
You’re absolutely correct. Cell phone services were the same way.
Well at Zika logistics we have KeepTruckin apt it’s on our phone and with a starting pay of .50 cpm with no shaved miles it makes good sense.we are only.
Otr we average 2500 to 3000 miles and our phone apt works great . And if you balance your time right no need for a recap because we run .34 hr resets every week so a fresh 70 every week to start but with keep on trucking apt I guess this is why I gross 1300 1700 weekly not bad at all these carriers who bought into these companies without checking are at fault of their own unless the company failed to disclose the obeld
I’m having a hard time following your comment – whats apt mean? Are you copying and pasting? looks kinda word salady to me
He’s spam recruiting. Try to usurp the thread to recruit drivers to his company.
Apt means,he lives,in an apartment
Damn…. I gross 13- 1400 a week home every night off weekend’s need to pay over the road drivers twice that.
It’s pretty useless to state anything except if you own a One20, we’re merging into another company. Why even waste time writing a dramatic article that isn’t dramatic?
Additionally, if you were a cheap POS that wanted a free service, you get what you pay for..
The One20 ELD service isn’t getting merged into another company, it’s being abandoned.
One20 ELD sold devices to customers for a $140+ upfront fee per device, it wasn’t free.
If you think it’s no big deal for a company to take $140 from owner operators and leave them with a non-functioning product a few months later, while the previous owner launches a new company that claims to support drivers at the same time as his previous company is screwing them over, then I don’t know what to tell you.
I use zed by cummins ,free for now pretty decent
You work(ed) for One20 and you’re saying anyone who bought your product is a cheap POS who deserves what they got? You should know it’s not difficult to find personal information of people posting on this site.
No surprise. 100s of companies got into the ELD game to make fast money. That is why there was no stopping this monster from becoming law. Too many companies had invested in it so they were going to push it through government at all costs. People got paid off. There was money to be made. It was never about safety and as we are seeing now ELDs are not safe. From those 100s only a few companies will survive. They never had any intention to develop a product for the “long haul” .
Sad to say but thats what drivers get when you buy something from a fly by night company. What dont yall just buy an ELD from a company that has been around for years instead of months? You know your going to have to have the ELD anyways, why not just invest in it. They are not going away. Even these “non”ELD trucks will eventually have to get one. So you cant just blame the company for your problems. Your the one that bought their product and filled their pockets.
TruckThat just screwed their entire customer base, bet they don’t stay in business long. CEO has already proven his business plan sucks!
We all are guilty of squeezing a dollar til it hollars!!!!
Yeah, but investors are not Working for that dollars they Grad, trucker are!
I piss,on the Werner truck parked next to mine every week
I work for a small carrier who runs this crappy One 20. I’m glad to see them shutting down. This company is the perfect example of it sounds to good to be true with no monthly subscription fee. My ELD stays given me issues. Sometimes I can drive 10hrs and it won’t update other times I’m parked and the system shows me driving and you can’t edit a system created drive.
Scam, make money, take money and leave thee customer in the lurch!
And, ‘Let’s change the name’, but had the same taste. No thanks, your unpredictable, untrustworthy.
I’ll never develop a taste for crow.
Thats what happens when you dont go with companies that have been doing it since the beginning wanted to take the cheap way out well you get what you pay for
Who were the investment partners? Follow the money! For a company to buy hardware and run that long with no income……. deep pockets looking for a big payout I would guess.
What company has been doing it from the beginning all the mega carriers have been grandfathered in but next year their device is obsolete too. I’m sure they’ll have some sort of ammendment by that time right after enough small companies have closed up shop. Just wait till the software updates every year forcing us to buy new devices just like our cell phones, computers ,and every other electronic device mandated.
Good luck sheeple have fun
It was easier for the investor to pull the plug after they found out the CEO was misappropriating money…
