Even though truck drivers across North America just went through Operation Safe Driver Week a month ago, there’s another one to look out for. CVSA’s Roadcheck was postponed in March due to COVID-19. It has now been rescheduled for September 9-11th.
Despite both the number of new infections and the death toll due to COVID-19 being significantly higher now than they were back in March, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has decided to hold the 3-day enforcement blitz in September.
“Although the coronavirus pandemic, understandably, shifted priorities and personnel during the spring, the commercial motor vehicle law enforcement community has reasserted its focus on the roadside inspection program and enforcement duties,” said CVSA President Sgt. John Samis of the Delaware State Police according to a CVSA press release.
Every year, International Roadcheck brings three days of increased CMV enforcement and inspections across the continent. This year’s focus will be on the “driver requirements” portion of an inspection. Drivers and their vehicles will be the targets of tens of thousands of 37-step Level I inspections.
It is not clear how the pandemic will affect inspection rates, but last year, CMV enforcement officers conducted 67,072 inspections total. Of those, 45,568 were Level I inspections.

As i have been saying for years it’s “SAFETY IN THE NAME OF THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR”
Lou says
Ya think!
Coyote says
We know they’re short of money. This is just another money grab like in Georgia on Highway 17 yesterday. They were working hard for that money!
Driver says
Hwy 17 is always a target I lived in Laviona for years
Andy says
Not just Hwy 17. They have been hot on Hwy 441 and Hwy 129 North of Athens. I’ve been pulled over 3 times in the last 4 weeks. Of course they love a 1203 placard.
Mario Carmona says
Amén
Sam Pitts says
What did they do on 17? I cut through there leaving Autozone sometimes and go through Hartwell to get around the Townville scale. I live in Anderson and don’t even want the headache being 20 minutes from home.
F the DOT says
Vacation booked for Sep 9-11 !!
Johnnie Leverett says
Smart move.
Russell Schoonover says
There isn’t any money in locking up criminal element like those leftest ( commas) out in Portland , Seattle, and New York they need to justify they job by screwing truck drivers and trying to raise money , all of them are a joke has nothing to do with safety of any kind
Danny Ray says
Could be alot of money locking up Trump and his cohorts, then they wouldn’t need to justify their jobs by screwing truck drivers. We’ll find out next year.
David Jones says
Not the brightest bulb are you?
Kevin Lopez says
Yes the demorats will raise our taxes, remove all of the tax brakes, and regulations on trucking will choke out all trucking jobs!!!. “Remember it was the democrats who raised the price of D.O.T. physicals and saddled us with mandatory D.E.F. systems.
Hawaiian Trucker says
Danny , thank you for putting yourself out there like that , it’s very important to show the people that ignorance is still a major problem in society.
Richard H. says
Too ignorant about history, to know the left, is labor.
Rig Commander says
Obviously, your history is weaker than his. The left is controlled labor, not free market. Don’t be so quick to judge based on CNN indoctrinational education.
Shawn says
That would be inhumane treatment making someone earn there keep
Gail says
Their nor there
Gail says
So, what do you have to worry about then?, if your truck is in compliance and in working condition?
James Lynch says
So government employees have decided to do their job for 3 days out of 365?
Richard H. says
This has nothing to do with safety, though they sure like to pat themselves on the back and act like they’re saving millions. This is about the law and order mentality. The law has been written, and come hell or high water, we’ll see that you follow it to the letter.
Rig Commander says
It’s about revenue. Always follow the money.
Kc says
Just another day in paradise! We are the overtime revenue source!
Bs says
Why are all guys crying saying the government needs to screw truck drivers and raise money? When you wake up, do your pre-trip and you’ll be good to go!
Rubin Jurado says
They are just doing there jobs
Besides, there are a lot of vehicles (trucks) that should not be out here running.
R.J. says
Time to reach into all those rolling piggy-banks.
Gotta pay for those Covid checks somehow…..
Mario Carmona says
We all have a commitment with our country and our nation, with our family on top of that , moving loads from from there, and and keeping food on their tables, new laws and more regulations coming, all the time, but I’m still waiting to see anyone of this Congress guy’s at least talking or taking any action about load prices or brokers regulations at the time to set prices on us….Amazing.
Kevin Lopez says
you will have to wait until Nancy Pelosi and congress go back to work. CONGRESS MAKES THE LAWS THAT WE HAVE TO FOLLOW.
T says
Everybody complains but absolutely will not do anything about it. It’s an easy solution, for those three days STRIKE. People act like that word doesn’t exist anymore but the fact is it’s the only thing that is effective, the past has proven it. I’m a truck driver and that’s exactly what I will do for those three days. And no, I’m not afraid of the possibility of failing an inspection, I keep my late model equipment up to the tee, it’s too much Government control. As the old saying goes, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. 3 days will not kill anyone. In fact it might give you time to catch up on some things that your getting behind on. 👍
Robert Rosser says
Large trucking companies are the problem, they hold sway over lawmakers, make special deals with brokers, and pay 1980 wages to their drivers. The problem is the Government and Corporations have made it so people (not all, but more) live for hand to mouth and can not afford even the slightest hiccup financially. The other problem is people spend beyond their means.
robin says
Amen
Kevin Lopez says
Two thumbs up 👍 and a hallilhalalilooy boi!!!!
ROBERT says
Their priorities are messed up but they are giving some notice. The solution is a National sick day call out for those days. This blitz is a scheduled event. Why not make it a vacation week? Call it truckers idis. Our message should be clear to the cops… they signed up to be cops, so be good cops and stop the radicals from the destruction they are doing instead of bothering the truckers. Three days in September should be enough.
Rig Commander says
That’s a great idea! Too bad today’s truckers are apathetic and selfish.
Dennis says
It has been that way I know for 50 years. Union Driver drivers say screw the Independent Drivers –Independent Drivers saying screw the Union Drivers and shippers saying screw both. Nothing has changed.
MGJ says
You are one of “today’s truckers” also, unless yoy stoppwd driving.
Helen says
I parked every blitz week since they started😉
Kevin Lopez says
I agree with you 💯 %.
Gail says
Their nor there
GORDON BOURG says
They’re, not there.
Jim says
You Damn wannabe truck drivers are a joke. If your trucks and logs are up to par there’s nothing to worry about. The problem isn’t the inspection blitz, it’s you drivers that can’t or just won’t do what’s needed to make sure the trucks you are sitting your fat asses in are safe…I’ve been out chasing that white line for 43 years now and have yet to be shut down or written up by these inspections….Why ?? Because I do my job and don’t have the time or patience to whine about it , if something is not safe about your equipment fix it or get the violation ya bunch of damn wannabe steering wheel holders
John R Hemminger says
That’s right. Close to 4 million solo miles and all I ever hear are the babies cryin’
If you don’t like your job, quit and be a left wing Kool-Aid drinker who sits at home whining he don’t have no money.
Deaconblues62 says
I always take off on a mini vacation during inspection BLITZ.
For the most part; it’s just training for new DOT OFFICERS AND STATE TROOPERS in training.
I don’t need to be in the middle of that noise.
Andrew H says
For that safety blitz a month ago, I saw increased police presence for only 1 of the days. And they weren’t pulling anyone over.
Helen says
That blitz last month was for all speeders
18 or 4 wheel
Romey says
the only thing I hate more than commas are periods
JC from NJ says
I agree. Seems there are more commas these days in Seattle, Portland and NYC than there are periods. I’m still hoping those crazy semi-colons to return.
MrNA says
Will there be hot dogs served ? I’m in.
Outlaw4life says
Good luck pulling me over for inspection while my rig sits in my yard safe and sound for three days. 🤡
Mr Warrior says
This should occur all the time and randomly, not just at specific times or giving too much leeway and to actually catch and fine those unsafe drivers and unsafe vehicles that should not be out there in the first place !!!
MrNA says
Last Blitz I ran across the scale it happened to be a rainy day. 3 out of the 50 asstd LEOs were standing on the roadside while the rest were sitting under tents and canopies safely munching out. I put my wheels on the fog line and sprayed the fuck out of the 3 dummies who got patrol duty. Yeah I can be evil. Especially when you bilk my tax dollars to pad your cush benefits, parade like you’re a public servant king, and villianize me and my profession. Inspections are good. Honest inspections. But like a few said here, why just 3 days and why not all the time ? We know the answer. It’s a political money grab and at the same time designed to villianize you.

Chuck Q says
The problem is that they invented bull crap 💩 that is a part of paperwork and permits that have absolutely nothing to do with safety
Suk says
It’s shame for these cops who are after Truckers to looted their hard working money under name of safety. 168 K people died government still not set any rule for Mask. Moreover. Hard working Americans tax money is given to Israel every year.
Cherokee says
Keep your equipment in good shape and there’s no problem, inspect away. Around these large city ports and trash haulers definitely need more inspections.
Paul Allison says
It’s never been about safty, after the 1st one they did and the next day they came out and brag about how many trucks they did and how much many they made off of TRUCKERS. Extortion plain and simple…..
Stowaway says
42 years with just one more to go, and I’m bailing out of this BS. Been there, done that!
Joshua L Weiser says
I keep my equipment up to code and here is the thing it is a level 1 which means papers and take notice of the date 9/11/2020. Anniversary date remind you of 3 states. I wonder what type of information federal government has

Could it be that if we were not so polarized and that, mostly by our politics, we could see that most of the comments are rooted in some level of truth. The infighting is so bad we may just lose it all.
