The owner of a California trucking school has been sentenced to four years in prison for a G.I. Bill scam that defrauded the Department of Veteran’s Affairs out of over $4 million.
Emmit Marshall ran Alliance School of Trucking (AST), a CDL school based in the Los Angeles area. According to a press release from the Department of Justice, Marshall would enroll veterans in CDL training programs that they didn’t actually attend. After billing the VA for their G.I. bill tuition, Marshall would sometimes split some of the money with the “trainees.” In some cases, Marshall would use the personal information of veterans to sign them up for classes without them even knowing about it.
With the $4.1 million he got from his fraudulent activities, Marshall himself was able to pocket around $1 million. He used that money to pay for vacations, jewelry, taxes, a pickup truck, and multiple tractor-trailers.
After being indicted in 2017, Marshall pled guilty to five counts of wire fraud in 2019. He was sentenced this past week to four years in prison and ordered to repay $4.1 million in restitution.

It gets tiring after awhile of how low people get. I hope he enjoyed his instant gratification life style. Just shameful.

It’s also tiring to see how little deterrent the legal system imposes. A million bucks per year in white-collar jail. Or, $250k per year, that he got to do something with, I suppose. Either way, he made more money than his “trainees” are likely to, in most of their lifetimes. What were the odds that he’d getaway with it? Better than even? Crime does pay… again. It’s a good bet he never pays his restitution. If he comes up with anything resembling that kind of money, it’ll be spent getting some sleazy lawyer to reduce or eliminate his restitution. Can’t he just declare bankruptcy, or something?

hmmm… was 4 million worth 3 yrs and 8 mos in prison???? Worse yet eternity in hell???? Don’t think I would do it. What will a man trade for his own soul???? Sad that people are so money hungry, that they will do almost anything to get money.
