Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced on Twitter that she will be resigning from her post. She was the first of President Trump’s cabinet members to announce her resignation after the events on Wednesday.
Secretary Chao is one of the few cabinet members who has stayed in the Trump administration from the very beginning. She is married to Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell. She and her family have been the targets of multiple ethics probes and investigations. And yet, Chao has managed to mostly stay out of the national spotlight. Until Thursday.
Chao announced her resignation on Twitter on Thursday in a letter addressed to her colleagues at the Department of Transportation.
“Yesterday, our country experienced a traumatic and entirely avoidable event as supporters of the President stormed the Capitol building following a rally he addressed,” Chao wrote in her letter. “As I’m sure is the case with many of you, it has deeply troubled me in a way that I simply cannot set aside.”

The rule for interstate drivers should stay at 21 there are to many bad inexperienced drivers now thanks to these make a quick buck driving schools
Michael Gary says
They need to pay Trainers a LOT more to train new drivers, and 4 weeks is NOT enough !
I would rather train an 18 year old farm raised kid, than a 25 year old that can’t manual shift.
22 year CDL.
Kevin Mulligan says
She’s been wanting to resign for a long time, but because old oily frog McConnell was playing politics with Trump, he wouldn’t let her! Why did she want to? Because both Mitch and Her are nothing but DC swamp creatures
Karl says
Very true.
John Lackland says
She was only ever there because she is married to the turtle.

The person in control of the d:o.t. should be or have been a driver so they have a better understanding of what drivers need and go through not a person that guess at what there job is
Rocky D says
I seriously doubt that it has much to do with events on Wednesday as it does the information leaked on her and her family’s close ties to the Chinese Government
C says
Exactly what’s going on!!!
Joe says
Lifetime grifter and grafter living on tax largesse. Sad to see her go. Said nobody ever.
me says
She’s a Chinese spy anyway. Infiltrated our government through a useful idiot.
Mike says
Bye bye….don’t go away mad just go away for that’s another person with no experience out here and telling us how it should be ran.
Craig Gaebel says
This was a virtue signalling dog whistle at best. What happened on January 6th was as preventable as the 100-plus days of riots that was active supported and endorsed by the Democrats, but nobody resigned over that. (The Biden team boasted of bailing out rioters in Kamala actively petitioned for funds to bail them out).
If she wants to make a truly meaningful gesture she should forgo her pension. All she has done is the political equivalent of flying BLM slogans on your business in hopes that they will leave you alone.
Lou says
Neither her or her husband need their pensions, like most of the clowns in congress.

yeay! Secretary of DOT is Gone. Transformed trucking into the joke it is today. Rules that confine a persons life but most important is that they have expanded trucking into the realm of general labor. The advanced driving talent on our highways is gone. All these newcomers think these rules are the way things have always been. Truth is there has never been alot of good talented drivers on our highways driving truck. Meanwhile the economy flourishes in stagnation. So Government had no choice. Utize trucking in a manner that supports more jobs and lesson the talent requirements with a more strnigent regulatory process. Reality is it all adds to the ” dumbing down of America” rampage.
Michael Gary says
Good riddance to Elaine Chao.
She was unqualified to lead American Transportation.
Pete Buttigege is also unqualified.

Best comment on this thread, so far.
I imagine that she is leaving this way, so that she can claim to have done so on her own terms, and not because Biden sent her packing. This way, she gets to claim both the high moral ground, and control of her own destiny.
Quitting 13 days before you know that you’re going to get fired is the functional equivalent of quitting without giving two weeks’ notice. I’d wish that her next employer took note, but she or her family will likely own the next place where she works, and if you own the place, you don’t have to be a good employee, or even be qualified for or good at the job. You just have to have enough money available.
Maybe she’ll get into real estate investments…? I hear that some interesting hotel and golf course properties will be coming out of foreclosure, in the next few years…
Azzure says
It’s funny watching the “news” and getting their BS spin and reading the reply’s from ®️Real Americans.
It’s 2 different worlds.
What does Buttigege know about transportation?
I guess we will have to deal with President Harris for at least 4 years.
Lou says
Maybe Pete can work the truck stops as a male lot lizard.

You couldn’t afford him.

The Swamp is thick. dark and mysterious. Secretary of Transportation, how about Todd Spencer. Everyone else is a fake.
MrYowler says
He wants to run the FMCSA, not the DoT. And I think that’s likely the right place to put him. His expertise and experience relate specifically to the trucking industry, and do not extend to rail, air, or marine transportation.
I can’t speak to his politics (I’m not all that familiar with his politics), but his professional credentials far exceed those of either Chao or Mayor Pete, for either job. He is best qualified for the job that he wants, and Biden probably ought to give it to him, barring interest from any better-qualified candidates.
For those who don’t know, Todd Spencer has been involved in – and then in charge of – the OOIDA, for a very long time.
Bobby L Morgan says
She was gone in a few weeks anyway, so this is just a publicity grab.
TT says
Re: Todd Spencer, Oops I’m Bad. Your’e right FMCSA. Still breathing 2020 air….What little I do know of Todd Spencer is good. He’s a straight shooter, No B.S., great Communicator type of guy. As a man I doubt He’s corruptible. He represents The Drivers interest and point of view in our Industry. Safe, smart, no nonsense policies that better the treatment ( “compensation”) and safety of our highways. He puts safety first because that makes sense. But in the same sense he believes safety ad I and many others do, and as Wayne Universities Dr. Michael H Belzer has theorized in “Sweatshops on Wheels…” is directly related compensation in our industry. I put it a simpler and crude way. ” You pay peanuts, you get Monkeys.”

It has already t to do with the Elections.
