EPA officials got a preview of Freightliner’s new Cascadia model during the Diesel Technology Forum’s Clean Diesel Power activities in Washington, D.C. The 2010-model day cab is expected to save operators almost 11,500 gallons of fuel over a million-mile lifetime, the manufacturer claims.
The Cascadia model should show a 5 percent improved fuel economy over Freightliner’s Century Class truck, the company says. It complies with EPA’s SmartWay fuel-efficiency and reduced emissions standards, with an anticipated CO2 reduction by 124 tons per truck, and nearly-eliminated NOx emissions.
The truck is powered by a Detroit Diesel DD13 engine, and comes with Blue Tec 1-Box emissions control system. Freightliner’s parent company, Daimler, created the Blue Tec technology to work with Detroit Diesel engines. The system uses selective catalytic reduction technology to control emissions.
