Frustrated truckers and people demanding an end to pandemic restrictions threw support behind Canada’s Freedom Convoy and the peaceful protests have gone global. Convoys have cropped up in Brussels, Austria, New Zealand, and the Netherlands in recent weeks.
More than 3,000 vehicles have reportedly attempted to enter Paris as the French government bans convoys. Dozens of protestors have been arrested by gendarmes, and hundreds were fined. To prevent a similar shutdown of Paris that Freedom Convoy caused in Ottawa, 7,000 French law enforcement officers have reportedly been deployed.
“There are numerous police vehicles here and cars from the so-called ‘Freedom Convoy’ – protesters who, despite the ban, have driven into Paris, and they’re blocking this roundabout. Police have been trying to clear them out, they’ve been asking people to clear the scene, and there have been scuffles here,” France 24 journalist Catherine Norris-Trent reported from the scene. “Clearly, the French authorities are very keen to try and avoid a Canada-style scenario, where the streets of the capital have been clogged up for weeks.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently invoked emergency powers to have Freedom Convoy truckers and supporters forcibly removed from border crossings and Ottawa.
“It is now clear that there are serious challenges to law enforcement’s ability to effectively enforce the law,” Trudeau reportedly said. “We cannot and will not allow illegal and dangerous activities to continue.”
According to the Canadian Press, Trudeau’s emergency declaration makes bringing children to the antigovernment blockades, participating in the protests directly, or bringing aid such as food or fuel punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 or five years in prison.
“I feel so sorry that we got where we got. This is not Canada anymore. This is a communist country. (Trudeau) is dividing people,” a Romanian-born Freedom Convoy trucker reportedly said. “It’s a civil war between us lovely people, and that’s what really, really hurts because we are all united.”
Quebec Premier Francois Legault has already begun lifting pandemic restrictions and could have all Covid passport requirements eliminated as early as March 14.
As Canadian police arrest Ottawa protestors for infractions as minor as honking horns, growing support in the U.S. has truckers organizing. Reports of a California-to-Washington, D.C., convoy has gone viral on social media platforms.
Dubbed the “People’s Convoy,” an estimated 1,000 commercial motor vehicle operators are reportedly all-in to conduct a coast-to-coast protest. Their timeline is to roll into the nation’s capital and create discomfort during the president’s State of the Union address. People’s Convoy organizers echo the frustrations of their Canadian counterparts and supporters around the world.
“This is about our rights, as well as the freedom of future generations,” organizers reportedly posted on Facebook. “It’s not about political parties, but more so about a government that has forgotten its place and has no regard for our founding fathers’ instructions.”

I think we need to have a strike by all freedom people for one week. That way no one is on the front line . the communities won’t know what to do
trudeau thinks that this emergency act is going o stop the convoys and actions by truckers he doesn’t grab the fact that he is being considered a want-to-be dictator – this emergency act is NOT GOOD – and I’m disappointed in the senate who apparently passed it – this is a very dangerous path for Canadians voicing opinion and demonstations!

I support the Freedom Convoy Protest. Trudeau could have ended this peacefully but he only knows how to bully, not lead. A good leader who cares about his people would have met with the truckers like they asked so they could sat down and talked openly about these issues and what needs to be done to change things FOR THE BETTER. We learned in grammar school that bullies dont win and are only angry little people who have to learn how to get along. Apparantly Trudeau hasnt learned that lesson. Too bad because it will come back and bite him in the you know where. He needs to be relieved of his position.
