A happy Independence Day to our community members and to all truckers nationwide! Whether you’re at home or out on the road though, holiday weekends like this one bring a significantly increased risk of cargo theft!
Both CargoNet and SensiGuard are warning truckers and carriers that they should be prepared for cargo thieves to be more active than usual this weekend. July 4th falling on a Saturday this year means that many shippers and receivers will be closed on Friday, Monday, or both. This will result in 1) more cargo 2) being left under less supervision 3) for longer.
This combination provides the perfect conditions for cargo theft.
According to SensiGuard, the number of cargo thefts per day increases by 39% during Independence Day holidays while the value of lost goods is 43% higher than the rest of the year. Hot spots include areas in and around Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, and Miami.
