Housing
Some companies provide housing, but it’s better to assume that you’ll have to find your own for at least the first month you’re there. Craigslist is your friend, use it to get a feel for the price and availability of rooms in the area. If you’re driving in from out-of-state, chances are that anything you saw online will already be rented out by the time you arrive, but new listings are always being added. Don’t wire transfer or Western Union money, scammers have become very good at taking advantage of the housing shortage. Only hand over money or a check if you’re physically standing in the apartment with the owner. Other advice:
If you have an RV you’ll be fine. I’ve seen two new RV parks in Midland this week. I see
them popping up in surrounding towns also. Keep in mind that these “parks” are dirt lots with electric and water hookups. Don’t expect any other amenities. Shouldn’t be much of a problem because you’ll be working all the time anyway.Vacant apartments still have a shelf life of 4 hours or so. The best thing to do is to pick a few complexes, complete their applications, and leave a small refundable deposit to get on their waiting list.
