Arizona authorities had not determined Wednesday evening whether a May Trucking driver died when his truck crashed into a home, or if a fatal medical emergency had caused the crash. The accident occurred just after noon Wednesday near Tonopah. Four people at the home sustained injuries.
The 45-year-old truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene, reported Azfamily.com. While heading westbound on I-10, his vehicle traversed four lanes and the median to slam through a block wall and into the Burnt Wells rest area home. The house is the residence of the rest area’s caretakers.
Four family members, who were in the back yard during the crash, were taken to a hospital for injuries, where they were reported to be as of Wednesday evening. The two men, a woman and a teen were expected to recover.
Investigators reported finding no evident tire marks to suggest the driver tried to avoid the collision. With a collapsed roof and walls, the home was destroyed. The rest area is closed indefinitely, and the accident remains under investigation.
