What have you guy's been hearing about this? I've read a few different articles about it but don't understand the end objective. Is this going to be a day-cab division with terminals or just short haul customer to customer service?

That would kinda stink for you guy's if you're from the mid-west and get stuck running 100 mile runs in the Northeast.

Basically here is how it works, less miles, less pay more work.
The regional drivers will mainly run loads that are 500 miles or less, and also run loads that are less than 100 miles as well, lets say they dispatch you a 250 mile load, once you deliver they will then put you on a cartage load (less than 100 miles) and have you run that, they are guaranteeing you will be home one day each week, and for those runs that are under 100 miles they will pay an additional $20 for each one.

Problem is as I have personally found out is that alot of these runs will also go to OTR drivers in the area as well, last week I did a 12 miles deadhead to pick up a 12 mile load and deliver it - since I'm not regional there was no additional pay, a few loads later they tried to give me a 30 dh to pick up a 9 mile load. (I couldn't do this because the way my hours worked out I couldn't legally run it. but if I had my next trip was going to be straight to the terminal. I wouldn't mind helping out once in a while with these type of runs as long as I was getting some decent miles but that week I only had 1900 miles. I see things getting worse for CWT drivers. at least for the solo drivers anyways.

    jakebrake12 Thanks this.

Yeah, that's no good. If their gonna do that, it seems it would make sense to use one of our terminals as a base for local drivers in areas with a lot of these runs. Would also work good for the OTR driver to swap loads for the local guy's to deliver so your not tied up at a customer all day. We have about 400 of them - seems they could come in handy for you guy's.

Hmm...It took Conway this long to buy into the old Herb S. regional BS ??

Wow!!! Somebody in the big house is losing their touch.

Just wait until they strap your ### with several of those back to back Atlanta to Atlanta loads, 123 miles total. Ooops sorry...that equals ZERO miles for the 2 trips you pulled today, and sat at customer docks for 1.5 hours at each end..

Or they dispatch you into Quebec, so you can sit for 8 hours. Pick up a load going to Cali, then relay the load to a team who have been waiting on you, for the past 12 hours.

YRC is going to eat you guys for lunch.

Personally I feel the pitfall here is that the freight terminals are not being utilized at ALL for TL, and freight is not utilizing TL to its full potential and instead contracting out cheaply to the mega-carriers. What was the purpose of buying CFI again?

Someone needs to go back to the drawing board and integrate us together because this separate entity bullcrap is for the birds.. people are wasting more time and money fighting it than just optimumizing what could be... :biggrin_25510:

Who knows. We are told it is cheaper to use the gypo outfits than you guy's or for that matter, our own trucks and people - go figure.

I agree, you would think TL would use freight terminals as drop yards at the very least.

Sorry it took so long for a reply...

its cheaper to use others other than those they already have? hmmm... they might as well just sell the terminals, all the trucks, and become a mega-broker like CH Robinson. They'd at least save the money and headaches on drivers, rent & land, and most importantly.... fuel.
