If you want to be rich, do things to make yourself rich. In the mean time quit #####ing and start doing. You can get rich in an honest way. It takes risk taking, sacrifice, smart planning, and hard work. Jealousy never got anyone anything. Now, being envious is a good tool to motivate yourself. Those two are extremely different.
No, I don’t feel sorry for anyone “poor” with their smart phone, 65 inch tv, gov housing, and fridge full of food stamped food. Oh, and free health care.
Get real some of y’all. Been watching too many Bernie rallies.

Doubt any of that would change my mind on social engineering not being a load of crap. You're quoting books by Orwell correct? All of which seem to be predictions from a pessimists point of view.

Getting rich the honest way involves a lot of hard work, 20 hour days, getting up at 3am and not slowing down till 10 or later 6 days a week; most of the country can't or wont put in that effort. 99% of people in this country could be handed a million dollars today and be broke in a year or less, and I'll include myself in that.

I totally agree, most all of the poor people would be poor once again even if given a million dollars. Poor people are poor because they live like rich people, rich people are rich because they live like poor people. I feel that’s a great quote.

and rubber duck with your insight I doubt that would be you.

You could hand me a million dollars at 8am monday and I could have it spent by noon. What I spend it on might make me more money, or I might lose my ###.

That's perfectly a good thing to argue the valor and honors of becoming rich. Especially, by hard work and invention. I agree with that 100%. I'd like to be rich or even filthy rich myself.
If you look at a bigger picture, however, it is not good to bei rich while surrounded by the sea of the poor and destitute. It is in their nature to envy and hate you, not being motivated by you. In the bigger picture, it is better that the contrast of wealth is subdued. The discussion was about the direction the contrast is going. The social health of the nation as a whole.

Thanks for letting me know. I thought they - the wealth concentrators - were taking them on that Orwell farm and made foie de gras feeding on them. You know ...feeding geese with a tube so they get overfat liver that tastes delicious.

I am a little too fat myself lately. 270 lbs. I need to trim down to at least 220 to get rid of the poor social stigma. Look what they did to me anyway. They must have foie de grased me while I was watching 8th season of the Walking Dead.

In this thread, yes I have been referencing Orwell. I have also been referencing Adam Smith.

Here's a new one for you - Billy Bragg's "Betweeen the Wars"

That is not the point of what we have been discussing. What we have been discussing is the overall strength of the economy. A rising tide lifts all boats, yet the economy of the last 10 years has raised a minority over the majority.
