True, but the Governor he's referring to was not Rod Blagojevich. It was former IL Governor James R. Thompson who was responsible for splitting speed limits in April of 1987.

I believe the speed limit for trucks has always been 55.

I think April of '87 is when the speed limit for 4-wheeler went to 65. Hence - the "split speed limits"

All Thompson did was to return the speed limit to the state it was before the federally mandated 55 mph. Illinois basically had a split speed limit during the 55 mandated because the cars did 65 anyway and were not ticketed.

Only states with split speed limits before the mandated 55mph could have split speed limits after the feds dune away with the 55mph limit. Two things I thought I would never see was 65mph in Ohio and Ill. Glad to see Ill go to it, after Jan 1 I'll will be able to drive 65 without fear of a ticket,
could realy care less about Ohio now as I dont run up there anymore.
