Yes 1500 was a bit high so buying was also a cost cutting deal for me. But I lost the saving in higher fuel cost. Freightshaker was getting 7.4 MPG but the Pete only getting 5.5 at it best so far.
Do I regret getting my own truck? Nope, glad I did.
Dino good luck.
What I been up to?
Been busy but not as many miles. When I stop for my 10 hour break I sleep so not much time to post. The Pete running good just loves the fuel. I listen to Kevin Ratherford and he talks mostly slowing down plus many other things. Well I get same 5.5 at 60, 65 or 70 So for safety I go the speed limit.
I am looking again and applied with LandStar. If I make it on with them it will be another Goal made on my way to my own authority...

In an earlier post I mentioned the Company Drivers has been crying for miles, well I seen it effect me too. In the last 2 months I can count on 3 fingers of a good pay check. Most been around what I made as a Company Driver. More of the over night express and less of the money making runs. A run from York PA to Savannah GA after expenses I made 150.00.
USA is still OK with me. 2 months ago I had a power steering problem which hurt me in the repair bill side. In that month I spent 3000.00 in repairs and due to low miles that month time frame was twice as much I made. 3 pay checks less than 500.00. Normally I been making around 1500.00 a week or better. I then blew a tire on the truck and USA fronted the bill for me and taking it out as I make it in my Escrow. Not to mention when I have a problem such as this week I broke a toe while at home which triggered an attack of gout in that foot they allowed me to stay home and fight the gout off. Sadly though the Gout winning, 3 days and still fighting it.
Kinghunter I was in Central Florida about 3 weeks ago for the first time since I been with USA. Went to a Wal Mart north of Tampa area off I 75.The Challenger and outerspacehillbilly Thank this. -
I wouldn't go to landstar without your own trailer. 36% you give them when you run their trailer and the rates aren't good enough to justify that

It's hard out there. If you're working every week and running everything you can then you're doing all you can do. Survival is the new success.
The Landstar guys don't have it any better. I gave a jump to one a couple weeks ago and he was losing his shirt and about to leave. Seemed like a smart and hard enough worker to me.
I have a pretty good deal and it's no better than anything else. I succeed at the expense of sleep and personal time off. Hoping 2010 is a better year for all of us. -
As for talking to the Drivers, I have talked to one who was not doing much, but talked to many others who is doing OK. Pending how you run your business. -
Coastie I'm PM'n ya something

I got it. I told the recruiting dept to cancel may application this morning anyway. 2 weeks since they got it and just started working on it plus seemed like a bad attitude. Rather stay where I am till I can go with my own authority....
