I'm not an newb but a little time under my belt behind the wheel.
I use to work for Watkins shephard straight out of school went otr for like 5 months; and was promoted to a salary position making 1000 a week.
18 months later they gave me an letter that my position is terminated and the paycut will be like 50% doing the same thing. If I did not take this position I would be considered voluntary terminated. Mind u only two days to decide, being home once a month or the weekend.
After my vacation I left for a home everyday making 11 cents more and hourly rates.
Question am I a whinner to think that was wrong, and with my experience I know I could do better.
Or should I have just stayed and dealt with it cause they gave me my only chance to get my experience.

IMO the only thing wrong with it is that you would be considered "voluntarily" terminated. Its probably best that you left, they're not your ONLY chance to get experience.

I would have left too.. Experience or no. There are other companies out there, and one that will cut your pay by 50% on two days notice isn't worth your effort.

Why be loyal to a company that jacked 50% of your income?

A company must offer loyalty to earn loyalty. Watkins Shepard offered you no loyalty but cutting your pay that drastically, and with such short notice. The only time I've seen that happen is when a company is trying to get somebody to leave voluntarily to avoid unemployment issues. What you did was the right thing.

I really apprieciate everyone for he comments on this; seems like I made the right chioce after all.
Just to throw out some numbers the position paid 200 a day doing ltl and I assure u I still felt underpaid dropping in the Northeast. The letter did say u could take the otr position or we will consider u as a voluntary quitter. Wait there's more, did the same work for .32 cents a mile with 5 or 10 dollars for pieces unloaded. My first check the following week I was paid my salary. thought nothing of it I called it an blessing thought the company was looking out.
A month later went on vacation and found out that this was my vacation pay, I should of learned from the first move. Wait there is more the.32 cpm went to .31 cpm thats right another paycut.
I brought this over here to veteran answers on this cause in watkins forum I should be happy I even had a job, let alone a nice big red shinny truck.

OK, I fail to see the problem. Let me see if I have this straight. You are a rookie. Yes with only 18 mos you are still a rookie. The company terminated the position. Something they have the right to do at any time. And then out of the goodness of there hart they offer you a OTR position at rookie rates. Yes .31-32 is what a driver with less then two years can expect. So you get upset because you think you are something special and quit. Now you are with out a job. Looking to get hired on in an industry flooded with drivers who have much more experience then you. Maybe it's just me but yea, I think you had a brain fart. Get over your self and beg for your job back. If you are real lucky you won't be UN-employed for the next 3+ mos.

Ltl exp in the entire NE with no accidents or low bridges, I believe I earned my keep. Furthermore, this here is suppose to be an career not a hobby.

Read on here urself and the census is do a bid of 18 months to 2 yrs and the industry is much bigger than .31-.32 cpm with the option to sleep at the pilot, TA, or mile marker 210.
Last but not least I'm to conservative to leave a job without one.
