oh that last part is hilarious...
minus, off the top of you head how often do you see a day cab parked in one of the parking spots for otr drivers that need to shut down there? how often do u see day cabs at the fuel islands? i see it daily, lookin at 7!!! of them now, all different companies.
minus... did bring up a good point, youll no where u going next in the 3 months, thats soo true, the first 3 months of truck driving are going to rough and hard, its a whole new life style that youll have to get used too.
eatiing out of the truck, or grabbing something on the run gets old after a while,
lync, we do a lot of watkins to watkins loads, ull bump into drivers all the time, youll go to, or pass through a term very often, 5 terms have company cars for the drivers to use, just be mindfull other drivers are ALWAYS waiting for a the car. to go grab dinner with a complete stranger is the norm here, and in the industry.

Thanks a bunch for that info guys! That's exactly what I needed to hear, truth and what happens on a day to day basis. I guess I'd learn all of this once I got into the company, but I'm excited and want to know as much as I can before I get in there, that way I have a head's up on everyone else!
I hope to run into you guys on my travels!
Sorry I don't know this, but Minus, you were talking about calling a broker to get some work I assume. Can you explain that? -
i cant, our dispacth will set us up on what called a broker, pretty much, its either our disp is to lazy to find us a load out of places, loads dont pay enough for us to pull em, or the broker loads pay more then what els is available.
calling them,. ull get all ur load information from our regular disp. then ull just have to give the sometimes very annoying broker a call just to confirm things with him/her. sometimes they call u non stop, sometimes youll never hear from them, other then at pick up u call them just to let them no, and when u deliver, just to let them no,
no big deal really, but they can be super annoying.
trucking, its either in you or its not, and ur right, day to day basis is a greta to put it, like java joe said, somedays its great, other days u wanna quit.
take each day as it comes. -
Well a broker is basicly a company that has connections to shippers...but the brokers don't own trucks of they own...or if they do...its very little...so they pay other companies to run the loads for them...Kinda seems how alot of companies a start...hire other trucks...build up a profit to start buying trucks of ya own...then when you get alot of trucks like we got...then you wont see other company trucks trucks bumping our docks...but I seen maybe 3 C.R England trucks at our docks since I been here since January...but that's basicly what a broker does...pimp us...lol...some brokers and anoy you...and some won't bother you at all...so don't start to hate all brokers like I do...but at the bottom of ya qualcomm message...it a say something like "Call Broker For Load Info"...to sum it all up...brokers are like the companies that do temporary job placement...they have the job for you to work somewhere...they hire you to work for them...but they send you to a company that needs a work for a few days...that's how it is...
And S2B I see day cabs all the times...day cabs need fuel too...and not all local drivers have enough "pull" to jump in front of the line all the time...so you see them all crunched up in they day cab trying to rest...while i'm playing PS3 just shaking my head...even if I ran local...I would still want a sleeper so i'm able to lay down when waiting...have space for my fridge and microwave...stuff like that...your not always driving of standing on a dock 100% of the time...plus it feels good to just relax and eat in ya truck then to sit at a dirty table at a truck stop or something...
And yea S2B is right...you'll take the car to go places...even though most terminals with a car has a walmart near you can bobtail too...but you can take the car...and you can do dinner with other drivers...that's wit most do...but normally if I don't know the person...then I just stay to myself...because every personality isn't for everyone...and I can only be "Fake" to the old fat drivers that wanna talk about the company 24/7...so I rather relax by myself or when I see S2B at a terminal...then roll out with a bunch of lames...and another tip...kinda watch what you say to people...because alot of drivers will take your info and run and tell someone else...so I basicly live my whole life as..."If I don't want a certain person to know...I won't tell anybody"...so that way no matter what I say to someone...I could care less if another person heard it or not...but yea you might see me at a terminal...I kinda stand out a little...lol... -
Darn...I had alot typed up and it got delted...well S2B summed it up...
-
Thanks for that info guys.
How strict are they on bobtailing around town to get food or supplies etc? I know they wouldn't allow a 300 mile trip nor 300 1 mile trips, but what's the deal with it all? -
yeah, minus... you stand out alright.... ull no minus when you see him, he has a dog that sadly is a bit hard of hearing, so he is always screaming at him. he rescued the dog from one of his deliveries.
about bonbtailing, u can use ur truck for personel use, which the company is pretty laid back on, and ur right, running up 300 miles...not good.
but to go to the store, or do a few things around town, not a problem, you just need to account for every mile thats put on the truck, they'll go over that stuff in class with you. -
Awww that's awesome! Good for you Minus. I'm a big dog guy myself. So that brings up the question, W/S drivers are allowed dogs aboard? -
yeah they allow dogs.... -
I would like to follow this thread but trying to read these posts is down right brutal!!! Are you guys using a cell phone to do this? If you're (correct version) trying to text while going 60 mph maybe you should wait until you're stopped. That way my friends we might see complete and logical sentences that make sense ( not since) and will provide information we can actually use.
