Well, I cannot suspend my authority but I can voluntarily revoke it which then I can reactivate it anytime.

That is the terminology. Sorry could not recall. Never done it. -
You should have no problem covering your insurance costs if you are not tied to any carrier like this, having an unneeded layer that simply removes more money out of your pocket for no reason at all.
I would look at landstar, I would also redo your business plan to see how you can shift back to your authority.
You won't lose the authority by the way, it will be suspended.x1Heavy, femalecdla and Dino soar Thank this. -
I went through the same bs and they wanted 29-30k. For me it would have been too much of a risk so I gave up on the Idea.x1Heavy and shatteredsquare Thank this. -
jamespmack and shatteredsquare Thank this.

I would love to know who that is that you are leased onto. I have never heard of someone is being leased onto a company that requires them to get their own authority unless you're talking about JB Hunt and you want to do power only for them.
I think you would do much better leased on to Landstar.
I just checked the email that JB Hunt sent me.
$1.53 for all miles. Or $1.80 for every loaded mile and I'm sure they'll deadhead you from Florida to Washington state.
If you can't do better than that leased on to a carrier, you need a better carrier.
Those are some crappy rates.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Looks like very soon even Landstar is going to require driver’s authorities.

timing is everything, sounds like there is a specific amount of time required in specific levels of financial responsibility hierarchy, you can jump over a couple steps but it costs way too much to be feasible, like owning a couple rental units and waltzing into the bank and asking for a 5 mil loan on an apartment complex. Also sounds like it's not clearly quantified in insurance land just what they're looking for, or what you can expect back based on your resume, until you get a quote back. The insurance company really just jacked up the $ without so much as a courtesy notification? That's not cool at all

$750k is the minimum liability by law. I haul general freight in a dry van so $100k cargo is sufficient for what I do.
