I am looking into getting my CDL to start working. Should I look into one of these companies offering to put me through school and then work for them for a year? Or should I just go to the local school by me which has excellent ratings and try to find a job myself? I live in Long island new york.

You want at any possibly way to pay your own tuition in full and have the CDL A on your own.

Career and trucking do not mix. We go through so many newbies in a few weeks, months in the first year. And as long 50 more newbies wanna drive truck in replacement of the recently dismissed ex driver... things are good.

Trucking is a lifestyle, or a journey rather. Its not just a job.

Don't worry about the CDL-B. Just go straight to the A.

Most people will I am sure will tell you to go for the school and pay yourself to get your CDL free and clear of any obligation.

I went the company paid route and didn't have any issues. But you'll often read posts here in these forums about others that did have issues.

Do whatever u feel comfortable with. If u go the company paid route, u will be in contract with that company for a year to pay off ur schooling. It is great option if ur finances arent great. If u have the cash to pay for school i would go that route as u will have ultimate freedom to chose which company to work for.

If you go to private school, make sure it's minimum of 160 hours.
Many companies won't hire from a school that's less than 160 hours.

Don't worry about a job; we'll help on that and probably give you a dozen or more company names to choose from.

160 hours? The school by me is $2300 for 12 hours and will take 2 months and I can get my cdl-a. And they have a 4.9/5 star rating on google

    That's a ripoff.
160 hr. school is only 4 weeks long.
Western Express is the only company I know of that will hire from a 12 hour school.
