I was discussing this with the VP of contractor development at my carrier. I drive for an independent contractor only division of a megacarrier, we have no company drivers and do not recruit drivers without experience. Our parent company on the other hand... Anyway, because of where he was at the time, he had a lot of contact with his counterpart at the parent carrier. He told me that nearly 1/2 of the drivers going through their school were homeless.

I currently don't have a "permanent" address either. I am nomadic in my Tuscon. We decided to not add me to my fiance's lease. Place is too #### small and the increase in rent was too much. That said. I am sleeping comfortably with a nice twin sized air mattress. Stay in a safe parking lot right next to the hospital that has security drive through and LEO by the ER all the time. I even watch all my fav TV shows using my phone's data and my little laptop. I shower, every other day, and spend the weekends at her place. We're saving that extra money to cover the time I won't be working and doing the CDL school, and also to move her to Altus, OK. Which will be our home base once we GTFO of FL.

So nomadic is not a bad way to live. I think I'd be a bit more comfortable if I had a roof top carrier to store my duffle bag. As right now it takes up too much room. Plus on the 30-31st of this month we are gonna boondock at on of the equestrian parks here. It is free and will be beautiful time.

My current DL has her address. But I'll probably either use the service @Chinatown mentioned above, or out new address in OK once we have one for later down the road.

Eh, it's the same thing. Just different wording. I'm not ashamed of it. This stuff happens. It's a setback, not the end of the world. My whole concern is with this new career right in front of me I was worried it would be a major hang up. I'm learning from both here and from a few people at my work place that were truckers there are several ways around the issue and it's not even a speed bump let alone a wall.

The company just called me about some paperwork and I'm glad they did. There was a clerical error and they had me slated to go to Montana o_O that would have been a hell of a thing to learn after showing up in Missouri.

I've been told that is doubtful. Actually the exact word were along the lines of "you have to be a total moron to lease a truck when don't even know what you're really doing".

My tahoe had the rear seat removed and donated. Its a freighter now essentially. But capable of sleeping two in a pinch. It will take a minimum of work to make it a home. Keyword minimum.

If you want to call Tx home for a little while, Ive got a 2005 38ft 5th wheel toyhauler that Im not using and having been wanting to sell. I bought it cheap, used it for what I needed and Id like to find someone else who needs it more than I do.

If you're interested, send me a private message and we can talk.

    dwells40 and Rocks Thank this.

REAL ID may make it more difficult than in the past. Not only do you have to prove your ID but your physical address. OP may need to rent a hotel room/apt and get a utility bill in his name and/or register a vehicle at that address.
